Bump 2017 Happy October, everyone! I don't want to fill up the DVR with a bunch of movies I've seen a dozen times each, so I'm trying just to pick one or two each night from TCM's Universal horror marathons. So maybe ... Dracula (1931) and either Dracula's Daughter or Son of Dracula tonight ... and on Tuesday ... Well, I haven't seen The Mummy for a very long time. TCM is showing Eyes without a Face later in the month, so I have to see that! But I don't see Hausu or Dead of Night scheduled! Boooo! I'm hoping one of the movie channels with weird Halloween scheduling shows Frogs. I haven't seen that for a while. Dracula's Daughter is a good choice, I also enjoy Nadja which is sort of modern remake.

I'll take Mark of the Vampire over Dracula's daughter any day. If Universal had made that film, people would talk about it a lot more.

I find Dracula's Daughter is not your typical Vampire movie and had a hard time liking it for multiple reasons that it's would take me forever to explain. This is the first time that I seen it for over 20 years and I'm afraid this is the last time that I see it. I just find it too complex and the plot is somewhat lacking for some reasons.

Had the ending been even tolerable, then Mark of the Vampire might have outclassed even the original Dracula. Still, even with that blight up on it, it's a wonderful film. Of course the BEST ending in any classic Dracula film is from Son of Dracula.

I noticed the DVD collection list I posted a little earlier in the thread is inaccurate probably because I pasted it from Amazon so I ended up scanning the back of the box. Some of which are on this list. Unfortunately I noticed it must be a rather cheap manufacture with little quality control because one of the disks cuts off the last 10 minutes or so of some of the films. Still tons of watchable movies though. I guess I can't complain because it was free.

As I bump this thread for yet another horror viewing season, I thought I'd mention that I have been seeking out and watching quite a few horror films from this time period that had previously eluded me and, while I'm not sure I'm up for completely revisiting this list, three might have been worthy of inclusion if I had: Dr. Renault's Secret (1942) Meshes of the Afternoon (1943) Night Monster (1942) Additionally, while I had seen The Raven (1935) before, it really grew on me with repeated viewings.

The Raven (1935) is a classic and I do enjoy it more now than I did back then ... thanks for bumping this thread up as Halloween approaches sooner than you've think!

I watched Meshes of the Afternoon some months ago; loved the eerie, surreal imagery. I plan to check out more of Maya Deren's work, but so far have only watched Witch's Cradle.

It's not a horror movie, but The Private Life of a Cat is my favorite Maya Deren movie. I came across it on YouTube quite by accident, and it wasn't until later that I realized it was the same director as Meshes of the Afternoon.

There's a good deal of contemporary criticism arguing that the film is more the work of Alexander Hammid than Maya Deren. I don't know enough about either artist to weigh in.

Time again to dredge this classic up for the Halloween season. Time permitting, I may add a few other films from this time period that I didn't know about back when I compiled this list. Silly me thinking I'd seen it all!

I'd love to hear suggestions from the next 50 years too! Far far far more films made during that era. It would take years to see them all!
