Negra Modelo has always been my favorite Mexican beer.
Same here, although I like the crispness of Tecate' every now and then... I hate to say it, but it's (Tecate') the "Miller High Life" of Mexico... light in body, and extremely quaff-able on a hot summer day. Most of the time though, I do prefer darker beers. I rarely buy Tecate' except when I'm at a Taqueria, but I almost always have Negra Modelo and Shiner Bock on-hand at home... including right now.
Those two are the official "house beers" (what's always in stock) of "Casa del Campbell". Still, the beer shelf is always crowded in my fridge, as I also keep various UK and microbrews in stock as well.
So if you come to my house and request a Coors Light or a Budweiser product, I'll hand you a bottle of water instead.

For the most part outside of Negra Modella and Dos Equis Amber, personally love Mexican food but don’t like their choices in alcohol. Especially tequila. Shiner Bock is an excellent beer. Michelob Amber Bock is good too. If they even brew it anymore. Honestly in the 90’s Michelob had many excellent bottled beers that I dont see anymore. But I will agree I usually prefer darker beers; stouts and porters. But right now I have a 12-pack of High Life in the fridge right now lol

I've never found a stout that I like by itself, but a local brewpub chain mixes their stout into a chocolate milkshake. That's pretty tasty.
My favorite in the dark, heavy end of the beer spectrum is Black Butte Porter from Deschutes Brewing here in Oregon. I'm not sure how widely distributed it is. If you see it, give it a chance.

Hush yo' mouth... my top faves in the beer world are Stouts & porters, Trappist ales and rauchbiers... not necessarily in that order. I keep them in stock, but don't drink them as frequently as other aforementioned beers due to 1) calorie count and 2) generally higher cost. Otherwise, there's not too much in the beer world that I don't appreciate-- save for the over-proliferation of IPA's, and the uber-low tier hipster stuff like PBR, Milwaukee's Best, and most Budweiser products. If I have to drink beer that tastes like it came from the kidneys of a diabetic horse, I'll pass and just drink water instead. Obviously, there are people that like those kinds of beers (super-weak rice-brewed lagers), so peoples' tastes are just different.
Actually, if I recall correctly, I'm drinking Beamish in this pic, but Guinness and Murphy's are almost as good as Beamish in my book, and I have an affinity for them as well. I also recall that this pic was taken on my 51st birthday, in Las Vegas. The Beamish was a buffer between flights of Scotch and 16 y.o. Knappogue (single malt Irish whisky).

Only if it's on tap. Guinness in some other container (cans or what have you) is an abomination. Guinness on tap however, is about the closest our decadent civilization can get to manna. -M

Its one of my favorites since before I should have even buying beer. Not only because its quality but its also readily available stout anywhere in the country. And I’ve tried every variety they have save the new “coffee” beer they have out. Also agree with tartanphantom on Murphy’s. Never had Beamish before so Ill have to look out for that next trip to the liquor store. And like him I dont drink stouts as much as I’d like to for the same reasons.

Hell, yeah! Years ago, my sister bought me a Guinness set for Christmas. There were cans, a mug, a chocolate bar and socks. It’s a drink that is very heavy on the stomach, so two pints is enough for me, but I think it’s palatable. They are selling non-alcoholic Guinness in the corner shop here. I rarely drink alcohol for driving reasons, but when I do, it’s Guinness or, well, I won’t tell you the other one as people in my life often mock me about it (okay, it’s Foster’s lager, which I find light and enjoyable).

You wont get no hate from me. I like Fosters too. Drank a ton of it in the 90’s. Dont drink so much of it now as Momma says it makes me irritable when I drink a lot of it for some reason. But I still enjoy a pint here and there.

If its available there (youre Canadian iirc) Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout is excellent. One of my favorite pints to buy.

Outside of the stout arena, some of my favorite Trappist style ales are brewed in the small town of Chambly, QC -- relatively speaking, almost in your "backyard"-- Unibroue has been making excellent products since 1992, and in 30 years I haven't found a product of theirs that I didn't like. On top of that, I have cellar-aged their bottle-fermented products for as long as 10 years. I can tell you from personal experience-- a 10-yr-old Maudite has deep brandy quality when you finally pop the cork on it.

when I first turned 18, my friends and I went to an Irish Pub in Houston - I still remember it. . ."Kennealy's" to celebrate St. Patrick's Day (and also because one of my friends had a huge crush on Bono Vox - as he was known back then from U2, which had just come thru town on the Unforgettable Fire tour playing the Summit).
and in "honor" of trying something Irish, we all got Guinness on tab.
I still remember thinking it tasted like a glass full of Tar.
(now granted, I'm not a beer fan anyways..I'll drink it if no other option. . .but that initial impression of Guinness remains with me all these years later).
