I don't follow sports at all, but one of my favorite things to do is go to minor league baseball games.

I'm in the midst of what I guess is several weeks' worth of TV viewing carried out over the last few days. I watch virtually nothing that isn't a movie & haven't in several years, but damn if Rizzoli & Isles Season 4 & True Detective didn't both come out on DVD this week. I watched episodes 4-6 of the latter this afternoon, with the concluding 2 episodes on tap as soon as I post this; finished episode 8 (& Disc 2) of the former & with any luck will receive the final 2 discs from Netflix by midweek.
Which will pretty much take care of my TV viewing till the latest season of Haven shows up on disc. I have no doubt that other shows I'd find just as enthralling as the aforementioned 3 exist, but I've yet to come across them.

Season Three of Longmire started up week before last. Have you watched Seasons One and/or Two yet, Dan?
Cei-U! I summon Ferg and Ruby!

Season Three of Longmire started up week before last. Have you watched Seasons One and/or Two yet, Dan? Cei-U! I summon Ferg and Ruby! Just the first episode, actually. Been meaning to get back to it, but damn if my laptop didn't stop streaming from Netflix a couple of weeks ago. (Apologies if I've kvetched about this here already; I don't think I have.) All of a sudden, only a few days after I'd streamed something like 8 movies over the long Memorial Day weekend with no problems, my machine shut down after I'd watched about 20 minutes of a horror movie I'd begun the night before. After that, it kept doing so after about 90 seconds. I tried different browers, un- & then reinstalling Silverlight, calling Netflix & then (at their recommendation) my laptop's manufacturer, ASUS, but no change ... though I did make it a whole 5 or 6 minutes into the aforementioned horror movie the last time I tried. Pretty weird, at least to me. It's never what I call a "hard crash," i.e. one involving a blue screen, restarting in safe mode, etc., but rather a simple switch off & then a routine restart. Once I've finished True Detective I'll give it another try, of course, but I know better than to be particularly hopeful. (Not that any of this would particularly matter if I could stream straight from WiFi through my BluRay player, which is a large part of why I signed up for WiFi in the first place a year & a half ago, but of course it turned out that ATT's infrastructure in my neighborhood isn't adquate to support a sufficiently strong WiFi signal for such a modern approach to viewing. Dammit.)

IMHO, baseball is pretty much the only legitimate sport. You sir need to investigate the wonderful world of cricket.

Would this be before or after I investigate the wonderful world of brain death?

Very disappointed, I have heard great things about True Detective and it's free HBO weekend, so I went to HBO on demand to finally check it out, but...not available. I can watch 2 seasons of Game of Thrones and just about any other HBO drama, but no True Detective. -M

When I was a young boy I was naturally athletic and wanted to play, but except for school, only got the chance in the 5th grade. Went out for wrestling, but cut most of the practices hoofing it around town buying what comics and candy I could. Being the oldest of 7 and living on a farm, I always had little ones to help with and work on the farm or the family beverage business, hence, my intense love of comics as I never got to do anything else.
I don't have the time to watch sports, movies, or tv regularly except to have the news or Investigation Discovery (murder-porn according to South Park) on for background noise. Neither of my parents have ever been interested in any kind of sports at all.
Grew tired of the NFL after high school as I think it is pretty corrupt, but I like college ball.
After OKC picked up the Thunder, I've become more of a basketball fan. At least it moves at a fast clip. Baseball bores me to death. My attention span isn't that long.
Until I played golf in college I thought it was pretty stupid. Haven't played since then, but I at least appreciate the game and watch when I'm at the in-laws.

I was going to ask - what do any cricket or baseball fans who might happen to be here think of the other sport? I'm not particularly a fan of either, but living in North America have seen a lot more of baseball, of course.

I've finally taken the plunge into the digital download world. I have a Samsung 10.1 tablet and I downloaded the comixology app. So far I've only acquired the freebies. I can't see myself buying the books that I normally read. The collector in me wants to actually own and possess those issues. Not a bad experience , all in all.

And yet I don't feel the need to be ignorant or disrespectful towards it. As far as cricket goes, I'm a fan of the one-day matches (the match is literally played in one-day with both sides getting a maximum 50 overs/300 deliveries). My hubby has a lifetime pass to the local venue where International matches are played and also gets bonus tickets as a perk, so we go to games annually. I support England & Australia, local side is full of posers right now. It's not just the fun of the game, but being with a 'posse' of friends, great food, tight tops and shorts etc. Plus our bar is not too far away....

I'd be interested to see what baseball fans think of this clip.
I dont really get baseball but Moneyball was one of my favourite sports films.

It's an interesting story about this book, Malibu had an incentive program for their readers. They had stamps that you could send in for special books and I collected them and sent them in along with a check for shipping and handling. Well, Malibu's superhero line was bought by Marvel and i never heard anything about what I mailed them . About a year later , Marvel Comics sent me a parcel with about 20 books or so of Mailbu's special Variants ( Gold, Silver) and the un- cashed check. Not a bad score. Shax, PM me your address and I'll send it to you. That reminds me of the time in the mid/late 1990s when I sent a check for $7 off to the folks in Atlanta for a copy of a new Space Ghost soundtrack CD. They had run out of that particular CD, so they sent me back a package with two other different Space Ghost CDs, autographed 8x10 glossies of Space Ghost, Zorak and Brak, and the uncashed check.
