I've never really gotten the idea of acquiring a taste. "Well, I know this tastes like garbage, but if you keep drinking it anyway, eventually you'll get used to how terrible it is." Um. Why would I want to do that? It's not a matter of learning to endure something unpleasant. It's a matter of your tongue gradually learning new sensations and finding pleasure in what, at first, seemed unpleasant. Some of my favorite foods were detestable to me when I first tried them. My tongue just needed time to learn how to experience those flavors.

Why would I want to do that? Cause it's got alcohol in it. Though that's still not a valid reason as there's hundreds of liquors that makes thousands of different cocktails and hundreds of varieties of wine. So yeah Scott don't drink it if you don't like. I mean I don't and won't drink Dr Pepper. Or you could like some people do to pretend they like beer and shove a lime, lemon, or orange slice down the bottle neck to mask the flavor. But then again why drink something you don't like.

I've never understood people who drink beer to get drunk. It's a very slow and expensive way to go about doing such a thing. Funny. Dr. Pepper was the very first "acquired taste" I ever picked up at the tender age of 12. Thought it was disgusting at first, but my friends urged me to try to it again. Now I love it. Life it too short to spend time on anything that doesn't bring you enjoyment (whether instant or delayed gratification). Acquiring a taste can be a form of delayed gratification, but no taste is right for everyone, and some people just truly won't like beer no matter how many chances they give it.

Somewhat late to the beer party, but my preferences are Brahma in bottles, and Keo on draft. As I've got older I've gone more and more towards subtler tasting beers. Couldn't stomach Stella Tortois any more, which was my regular choice in my teens/early 20s

I'm just saying people drink some things for chemicals in it alcohol, caffeine, sugar etc. no matter if it really tastes good or not. So yeah I'm sure there's people that drink whatever has the chemicals they like whether the taste is good or not. Hence cocktails or sugar malt drinks or sweet wines. I've never tasted a coffee that's good. So when it's cold and I want something hot with caffeine I dump sugar in it. I guess what I'm saying is it's not always the taste that matter but the end result. Like when you're truly parched and thirsty you drink water, maybe even unfiltered. The only thing I can think of that I tried earlier and them again later in life is red wine. But that's not specific and could have been the brand or type I tried the first time. It's like trying 7up and saying you don't like soda but years later trying Mt Dew and liking soda. I can't really think of a specific drink I tried and didn't like and tried and did. It really is. While I can really anything by altering with additives there are specific foods from my initial reaction I know I can never acquire a taste. But that doesn't stop me from trying new things. Just like comics why pay money a read a series that's blah when there's five decades of comics to choose from.

As a microbrew fan (and homebrewer) I like to drink lots of different beers. But if I had to narrow it down to one I most enjoy going back to, it would probably be St. Bernardus Abt 12. Runners up include Delirium Tremens and Franziskaner Dunkel.
Perhaps I should feel bad that those are all imports....

I wouldn't. Imports and usually my favorite with Franzikaner Dunkel being a top contender. I do like quite a few Samuel Smith beers like Taddy Porter, Oatmeal Stout, Imperial Stout and Yorkshire Stingo. I also like Chimay when I can. Brother thelonious beer is also quite good. Then on the lighter side there's Bitburger, Harp, Bass, Hoegarden, Warstiner or Kingfisher.

Depends on the individual, of course, but I doubt that I'm alone in having no interest in drinking anything I don't like the taste of. If I want caffeine, I'll make (or buy) a frappucino; I'd never drink plain old coffee except, I suppose, at gunpoint. If I'm at a restaurant, I'll drink iced tea, whether sweetened with sugar or something artificial; I'd never drink it unsweetened. (That is, of course, if tea is included in the price. Otherwise, I'll drink water, because I'm a cheapsake. I'm sure restaurateurs just love me.)

Ballantine Ale (complete with Rebus in the bottle cap, and yes, dammit, the skunky flavor)
Bass Ale (when it's on sale or if I'm at the pub)
Cape Cod Red (my neighbor's the brewer, but I drank it long before I knew him; also, it's sold by the growler)
Moretti (only at my favorite Italian restaurant)
Rolling Rock ( a light beer for those of us who loathe lite beer. Like wine coolers, they are an abomination)
