If you could afford a vacation home which would you pick?
A Log Cabin in the Woods?
or
A Beach House? If you vote other please post what that would be. Thanks.

For me it would a cabin in the woods. I would use it year round as opposed to a beach house. Plus I would think the upkeep would be less time consuming. You also would not have to worry about hurricanes, etc. Plus I relax more in the woods/mountains than at the beach. And I am more concerned about the weather when I am at the beach than in the woods/mountains.

Cabin/home in the woods is for living in and enjoying everything that the mountains deliver. Beach is great to visit but just not as endearing for me.

Beach house so I could sit on the porch or deck at night and listen to the waves.

I prefer a Bungalow (or similar) type of a house under 1500 square feet sitting on a small partial of land. 2 Bedrooms 1 Bath 1 Kitchen 1 Combination of Dining/Living Room 1 Entertainment Room (TV) 1 Small Laundry Room Front Port Covered Car Port

Beach house all the way. My perfect vacation spot is Ocean City, MD, so being able to just go and hang out there any time I wanted would be ideal.
As for the cabin in the woods option, I saw that movie and I sure as hell don't want any psycho scientists setting loose all manner of hell-spawned nightmare creatures on me and my family to satisfy the cravings of some elder god.

Our family spends a week every summer in Virginia Beach. We also take a long weekend & stay in Ocean City, NJ. But we spend several long weekends throughout the year at a place in the Poconos.
I love the beach but in small doses. Listening to the ocean is serene but I tire of sand getting into everything. I also never enjoyed the beach unless I can go in the ocean. So the beach only holds an allure for me for a few months in the summer.
But the Poconos I enjoy year round. Every season offers something different. Summer: swimming & boating in a nearby lake. Fall: hiking thru the woods & looking at the autumn foliage. Winter: enjoying the snow & winter activities. Spring is OK. Seeing new growth all around although it tends to be rainy & muddy at times.
Although I have to admit I like living where we have lived the last 28 yrs...in a small town surrounded by farms. Probably the only place I would not want to live? In a city. That holds no appeal for me.
Part of the reason I did the poll is next week we are going to the Poconos. Also my wife & I have been talking about buying a vacation home in the next few years (after we get thru another wedding & finish the home renovations in our primary home). Cost does enter into it. A home in the Poconos would be a third of the cost of a similar home at the beach.

I live surrounded by trees, a mile from the ocean, two minutes from the lake. . From Field of Dreams... Ray: Is there a heaven? John: Oh, yeah. It's the place where dreams come true. Ray: Maybe this is heaven. I often think of that last line sitting out under the stars in my back yard, or raeding by the lake, or driving by the beach, or stopping ot watch the sunset while I'm digging for oysters and clams. I'm a lucky man.

None of the above. I don't want to feel obligated to go to one place over and over again.

A sailboat at anchor somewhere. This does have appeal to me as well. But I would say a home somewhere in the mountains. I lived in Lynchburg VA for some time in my youth and had family we would visit when they lived in Roanoke VA and it's just beautiful country with lovely views. (The Blue Ridge Parkway is fairly close to Lynchburg too so always up for a scenic drive). The beach is nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there (though the wife would). Hurricanes are a danger to consider here in NC and I wouldn't want to spend time yearly in either boarding up the house or having to evacuate if the danger is that severe. (Living on a sailboat would be different and perhaps fun. Just take the home with you to hopefully escape any possible danger).

My Condo is 455 square feet and I've would love to have a home looking like this: With the Kitchen, Dining Room, Washer and Dryer, and 1/2 Bath on the Downstairs with the Master Bedroom, Full Bath, and a Bedroom with an adjoining Full Bath for my Guests Upstairs. For the Entertainment/TV Section that's downstairs as well. This way I can double my space accordingly and either have it anywhere I want.

Beach house but I like RR's boat idea too.
It kind of resonates with my helicopter fantasy.
