thwhtguardianI have similar complaints about Spirits of Vengeance. It doesn't seem set up well, so the writer rushed through certain parts while wasting time on others, giving it a very disjointed feel. Since it's only a limited series and my purchases of the next three issues won't determine its fate, I think the remainder of the series will be $1 bin pickups down the road.

Yeah, I can't imagine it fairing well. One issue that starts off a little slow can be rectified but after two issues? In a limited series? I've never seen it turn around. It's a shame as it's a great concept and I do like the art, but man the writing just kills it. |

 Written by Gordon Rennie. Art by Duke Mighten. Cover by Mark Buckingham. The story opens with FA in police custody being questioned & mocked by the NYCPD. Until Special Agent Lydia Rutherford of the FBI has him released into her custody. FA finds out his FBI liaison from 1954 died in 1972. Finally someone (Lydia) acknowledges how weird & creepy FA's origin is. Essentially he is Nelson Flagg walking around in his dead brother's (Johnny) revitalized & enhanced body. Then we get a split sequence with FA & Poison Ivan talking about America & Russia while we see where the two countries ended up in 2017. Meanwhile Lydia & FA get Speedboy out of the detention center. And we see Madame Chaos & Kid Chaos communicating thru time on how to make FA's life even worse in 2017. Another great issue. I really like the satire. The 1950's viewpoint of both FA & Poison Ivan. This is a brilliant series IMO. It takes the old heroes displaced in time idea & really examines it thru a modern viewpoint. And it's FUN. I really hope this series lasts. 10/10. My favorite this week. |

 Written by Alex Segura and Matthew Rosenberg. Art by Joe Eisma. Cover by Fiona Staples. Everything seems to be going well for the Archies until Mr Lodge cancels Veronica's credit card. When the band thinks their shot at a tour is over Jinx from the Little Miss Steps has the Archies & the Bingos open for them. Crisis averted (for now). Fun title featuring the main 5 characters. We get to see them away from Riverdale as a band. And frankly as fish out of water. They are in way over their heads. 9/10. |

Daredevil #595.
Part One of Fisk as Mayor of NYC & first Legacy issue of DD.
Great issue as Foggy tells Matt how Fisk managed to become Mayor while Matt was in China. Matt decides to take down Fisk. No one else seems to care that Fisk is the Kingpin. As long as he returns NYC to "normal" (no costumed heroes). DD is caught by the police & escorted to Fisk's office where he escapes & Fisk falsely accuses DD of attacking him. He demands the police bring him in as a criminal.
Wow. Soule restores an old school feel to the title with another Fisk-DD battle. And this one looks to be another classic. Well written. Nice art. Old school feel. IMO Marvel is getting back on track.
9/10.

Titans #17.
The traitor is revealed as future Donna. And it feels like this title just derailed. I have been loving Abnett's work on this title but this issue felt so off for me that I really did not enjoy it.

Flash #34.
Meena is back! And it looks like she can help Barry get a hold of his negative powers. Barry finally sees some hope with his Negative-Flash powers until Meena steals them for herself & turns him over to the Black Hole!
Williamson stumbled the last few issues but with this issue has the title back on track. We also get beautiful Pop Mhan art.
7/10.
