Many states are preparing for what could be an epic blizzard starting this afternoon. I'm half expecting it to be nothing, but I've stocked up on food and entertainment all the same. I'm curious what you are all planning to do with yourselves if you get snowed in.
I plan to watch the DESPECIALIZED EDITIONS of the Original Star Wars Trilogy for the first time:
Read Hugo Pratt's The Man From The Great North, get through a pile of Don Rosa Disney Ducks stories, and maybe get around to a review thread or two.

I've a cousin in Cleveland and my brother forwarded his email to me and according to him - he just brought a generator and have plenty of gas to give him power to the the kitchen, entertainment room, and other rooms when it's warrants it. I'm stunned by the latest reports from the latest forecasts that this storm is truly an epic event. I'm okay of where I'm at ... raining days and temperatures above normal and just got up and the temperature is around 48 degrees and the winds around 13-15 miles per hour. I just hope that all of you back EAST to be fully prepared and stock up on food, water, and plenty of other stuff that you might need. Man, this is going to be one heck of the week for all members back there.

I'll probably watch some movies with my girls, read some more Luke Cage, Power Man issues, and stay warm by the fireplace.

We're supposed to miss the brunt of it (1-3 inches this afternoon, another inch overnight forecasted) and I am working a split shift (bit plan on staying there between shifts to avoid driving in the mess at least once), so no hunkering down for me unless something odd happens and we close early.

We have some very old/outdated infrastructure in the North East Ohio area, so I'm expecting to lose internet and possibly power. Very thankful for my fireplace

WINTER STORM HUNTER
I've been watching the Weather Channel most of the day and seeing pictures of this crazy storm back east and seeing snow, rain, freezing rain, and ice all over the place. In upstate New York, 12 to 18 inches of snow in most places and my Cousin in Cleveland reported 40,000 customers were without power because a transformer blew up and fortunately he lost power for 2 hours before and he got his generator going and restore power to the essentials. He had one lamp on in bedroom as a signal that the power came back on. He shuts off the generator and fine for now. Flooding, High Water, and everything else is wreaking havoc. JetBlue canceled flights and more coming ... temperatures in single digits for low and Chicago is getting hit of water over the Great Lakes and getting worse in most places. Weekend in most places are going to be crazier than ever; another round of Arctic Air and may threaten Northern Florida.
It's crazy and this is an even of the year and 2018 started like a Weather Bomb in Eastern United States!
Definition of a Weather Bomb a rapidly developing severe storm, technically defined as one in which barometric pressure at the center of the storm drops by at least 24 millibars over a 24-hour period at or north of 60° latitude.
"many houses could face water damage if more weather bombs arrive"
Snow in Louisiana is possible this weekend ... the 13 Original Colonies of the United States are the hardest hit!
Stay Warm ... CCF Members back East!

Wish I could have hunkered down, but worked through the storm and had a hellacious drive home. I made it safe and sound. Unfortunately, my wife had to get a ride home form work as the freezing rain had frozen the locks on both doors and the hatchback on her car shut and she couldn't get into her car, so I have to drive her to work in the morning with some deicer to get retrieve her vehicle. Not as bad as one of my co-workers though, who got to leave early but slid off the road into a ditch and had to wait to be hauled out of the ditch. The owner's son (who was the ring bearer in our wedding lo those many years ago i.e. our Frodo as we tease him) tried to drive home to Cinci from the restaurant, but gave up and turned around after 15 minutes of slipping and sliding and will crash at his folks place here in town until the roads are clear. The freezing rain we got before the snow fell made a nice coating of slick under everything and had no time to melt and was covered quickly by snow so wasn't being melted when they treated the roads.

Sorry to hear about the horrible winter weather many are experiencing. I used to live in the Baltimore, MD area years ago and remember the harsh winters there & the extreme amount of snow. One winter we even got snowed in for close to a week.
Where I live now we don't get a lot of snow, but occasionally do get ice-storms - and these make driving extremely treacherous.
I will try to avoid roads/driving during freezing rain/ice - if possible. I've driven during ice storms/freezing rain & also during snow, and driving during freezing rain is much worse. With snow, your car may get stuck. With freezing rain - however - it will almost certainly slip & slide all over the road.
And, now it's very cold here & I do need to have the faucets dripping @ my home - just in case. I'd recommend that same thing to everyone who lives somewhere where the temperature gets below freezing.

Snow measuring 22.3 inches was reported in Bellevue, Ohio. This amount of snow fell on this city in Ohio west of Cleveland, and he had a friend who lived there and stuck and can't go anywhere and has to walk a hour to a grocery store to get food and other stuff. That's walk normally takes 20 minutes and that due to the snow and ice. It's worst one day of snow in that area. That's nearly 2 feet!
