Free Comic Book Day!2000 AD RegenedI picked this up today. Its a 'all ages' issue, looking back at a couple main characters in the youth, so its sanitised Dredd which I wasn't sure how they manage but it was done well I think. Still had good simple story and the Dredd humour. It got something for all, references to the Dredd world, little factoids in the page margins about the character, and Dredd punching velociraptors... and finishing with him booking the whole stadium. so nothing not to like really (: Also had a teenage Johnny Alpha being tested for the Strontium Dogs then a Thrag's Future Shocks, usually one issue short stories with a surprise twist at the end. Humancraft made me laugh: I liked the issue, can't complain for freeness, but hope next year they don't go for the all ages issue, it was nice but doesn't really suit Dredd. Also picked up the a few issues was missing of Dredd: The Blessed Earth, not been able to get to my not-so local comic shop for a while but owner was holding onto the comics for me

Prog #2081The Chosen One
New Dredd story Just one prog long this time. Dredd is with another judge investigating the kidnapping of a at first unnamed citizen by a group of doomsday cultist. Reports and video footage takes them out to an abandoned sector and the now decommissioned 'Puke' factory (whose logo looks a lot like Coca Cola lol). The factory was very obsessed about keeping its secret ingredient (repossessed sewage) a secret, despite all other soft drink companies using it anyway, so had high protection including blast shutters. With no time to wait for a bomb squad, they find another way inside. Can't go over it, can't go through it, they had to go under it, specifically through the sewage pipe. Its a fun short story, moves quick but easy to follow with a small twist at the end where we find out why this citizen was wanted by the cult {Spoiler: Click to show}His name is Owen Krysler, which was also the name of The Judge Child/The Mutant and the cult thought that he could bring about the cities destruction The art is nice too, Dan Cornwell drawing with Abigail Bulmer colouring though my phone photo doesn't show colour off very well. The panel included is think my fav from the story, can't say the judges are not dedicated to the job

Good prog this week. A nice one-shot Dredd, some more Wagner/Ezquerra goodness, and no more Anderson. Cool.

Was kinda weird and admit skimmed read it, they were going through time and messing things up or something. But I'm not familiar with the characters so maybe if read more would understand the humour. Can upload some pages though if you like to see?

New stories starting this prog Focusing on two that interest me most though... First new story for Dredd... The Paradigm ShiftIt sees Dredd with a team of other judges visit a recently raided store, searching for an artefact that went missing long ago. This seems like it could be an exciting story, the timing mentioned puts what they are looking for as having gone missing a year after the judges came into existence. Also, just out is a novella Judges: The Avalanche, which is centred on the early years of the judges. No idea if it ties in to this any way but would be a good way to promote the book. also Durham Red is back! in Born Bad The vampire-like mutant and ex-strontium dog is now working for hire by whoever pays enough and just got a new job offer from an desperate grasshopper with excess cash to track down a relative. Its slow starting story but there has been a big gap since the last series, so for an intro to the character it works very well. Very with picking up this prog if you can. Survival Geeks has a new story now too, always fun if you like some comedy.

2000ad Sci-Fi Special 2018Is what name suggests A extra long yearly special comic full of sci-fi themed stories. It was published alongside the main comic for years then stopped before coming back in 2014. Since it is much longer going to do few stories at a time, mainly as haven't read them all yet. The usual Prog is out too, and the monthly Judge Dredd Megazine so have had lot reading to do lol This special is a little extra special all the script writers, artists, colourists and letterers involved are women. Kinda think that shouldn't be special enough to mention but guess comics is still very male world so it nice female talent is getting seen. First is Dredd story: Script: Emma Beeby, Art: Babs Tarr The FeelsAs often happens in the Meg, a new cult has arrived with the aim to get citizens and judges to embrace there feelings. Dredd likes this as much as you might expect Dredd to like it. But the cult seems to be making an impact and then set sights on getting the some of the worst residents of a local Iso-Block to do the same. Wonder what feelings they have? anyway was fun story and I like how Dredd is drawn in this, it seems comic style rather then graphic but still makes him seem like person can't mess with. Next, a new character Tyranny Rex Don't forget about my cacheScript: Katy Rex Art: Liana Kangas Colours: Liana Kangas/Gab Contreras Letters: Ellie De Ville Bit of a weird story here but its very different to what seen in other 2000ad stuff for a while. Main character is a part-lizard artist who makes a living any way she can including torrenting 3D downloads. The newest of which goes a little wrong...Luckily her admirer who is also a bit of a hacker is able to help. Wasn't a fan of the art or story but its different which is nice though no idea if the character will return again in the main prog or future sci-fi specials Rogue Trooper now The Thousand DaysScript: Alex De Campi Art: Sam Beck Colours: Eva De La Cruz Letters: Annie Parkhouse If you are new to the character this is a good story, tells you who he is and the world they are in with just 4 pages. Story starts with a Souther platoon fighting in a dead forest for years and gaining only meters into a Nort base. Supplies are low and rations are disgusting but Rogue has an idea of how they can get across the forest that is covered in land mines and booby traps.

Next half (: Jude Death Darkness Descends Script: Leah Moore Art: Xulia Vicente Colours: Pippa Mather Letters: Annie Parkhouse I like the logo for this, is copying the style of the Judge Dredd Magazine font, badge too, just with skulls instead of stars Visually think this is my fav style in this comic. It suits the story which is a bit dark humour. It sees a struggling band find a old 'Beatpad' recording of the band 'Living Death', an event that Death himself crashed. The band then unwisely decided to play the tape and cover the songs. Demarco P.I Love RemainsScript: Laura Bailey Art: Dani Letters: Ellie De Ville I don't usually like black and white style, often find it gets messy but this isn't too confusing. Demarco is asked by the owner of a local bar to investigate why so many residents are vanishing in a Ying Towers, with various body parts turning up in hallways. She talks to a few people at the bar, one of which strangely admits to being married to a judge. Demarco sets up some cameras, not thinking she is going to find much, until she does Hard to mention much more without spoiling the story for any what want to read it but it was good. There is reason judges don't marry Anderson Spa DayScript: Maura McHugh Art: Emma Vieceli Colours: Barbara Nosenzo Letters: Ellie De Ville The last Anderson story I didn't like much, too many characters with plot that was too messy. But this I think is much better even if she doesn't seem to be the main focus. While training with Psi Judge Shakta, Anderson gets called in for a 'Spar Day' something that Shakta informs the teasing street judges in the gym, is far from as pleasant as sounds, comparing it to a wire brush scraping the inside of your head. Anderson warns that her mind is in a delicate balance (having at one pint had judge death roaming around in it) and a scrub could just make things worse rather then cleaning it out. They don't listen, stuff happens there were two more short stories but didn't think they were very good and couldn't think of what to write about them, so saving myself trouble to write and any that read this trouble to read it also realised didn't put the cover on first post, so am posting it here as it is a cool one: Art: Tula Lotay

Prog 2090Sone new stories this issue, new Dredd but also new Grey Area Have to say of all the newer characters and stories to come from 2000ad recently, this has to be one of my favourites, especially with Mark Harrison doing the art recently, style is very fitting. It is like Sci-Fi meets Border Patrol. Earth having been the victim of a first contact gone wrong where many died and others were gifted with powers (making them victim to hate crimes by those who are anti-alien anything), set up Grey Area To quote the info blurb 'The mid 21st century. Earth has a heavily armed defence network, and any ETs arriving on the planet are housed in the Exo Segregation Zone, known as the Grey Area, which is policed by squads of Exo Transfer Control officers like Captain Adam Bulliet and his team...' The first series is out in paperback, really recommend reading it. Different artists then but it gives you a good insight into the world and its pretty funny. There has been another large story arc since then which brought in new characters and the latest series follows on from that. This new stories sees the team back at base when the Grey Area is attacked by an alien who made an illegal entry attempt and was detained. The first part of story ends with a huge bang, won't give away any spoilers but wanting this to leads on to exciting things. Often Grey Area stories are finished after one or two progs long and then another story follows on. Hoping this turns into a longer story arc

She had a Heavy Metal mag vibe, with british writing quircks...
