I'm curious to find out what everyone's dream collections would look like? For me, and if I had to choose one thing, I'd have to go with a complete set of DC's Super Powers figures. I think it's all about nostalgia for me. Of all the action figures I had as a kid (He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers, etc.) I had the most fun with these figures. It would cost the GDP of a small nation to buy all of the originals, but I'm strongly considering picking up as many of the newer homage figures that I can find.  |

I am slowly assembling some toys, specifically the Toy Biz Spider-Man stuff from early 90's. That was a cartoon I grew up on. Some of the figures are great, others not so much. Currently, I have Hobgoblin, Green Goblin, Shocker, Black Suit Spider-Man, Scorpion, Prowler and Carnage. I recently purchased the large Hobgoblin glider (which I hope to put a picture up of this weekend) and also have the Daily Bugle playset. I would love to acquire the Crime Central Kingpin set, seen below as well as a few more figures (Rhino, regular costumed Spider-Man, Mysterio, Venom, Kraven, Doc Ock).  Nothing is that expensive or rare but I hope to accomplish a nice set. I also busted several figure open this past week...I was worried I would feel bad but to me it was no fun without seeing them set up. Plus, I will keep the boxes and backing cards in case I lose interest someday and want to sell them (unlikely but you never know in life) As for holy grails, one item I would love to find is the Punisher van.  Boxed, it regularly seems to sell for around $130-150. Ouch. Finally, if I had more money to spend, I would seek out M.A.S.K figures. My cousins had these toys and they wound up in my grandma's toy chest at her place when I was growing up in the 90's so I played with all of them. Never watched the show, but it is on my to do list. The toys were great fun and they had some great vehicles....  Interested if others here keep stuff boxed or if they crack it out to display... |

I much more collect pieces that I like rather than lines, but the lines I have most interest in are:
-Micronauts figures, vehicles & playsets (I have slowly been adding to my Micronaut collection, and Karza is on top of my want list)
-Mego's 10 inch Flash Gordon line and playset (I've not seen a sniff of these in the wild since I got back into vintage toys)
-Mattel's 1979 Flash Gordon line of action figures based on the animated series (I have a loose Ming with no accessories and that's it)
-Blackstar figures and playsets (I have John Blackstar and Overlord loose)
-original Mego carded Conan the Barbarian and Tarzan figures (I have the Figures Toy Company ReMego version of Conan (plus Kull and Solomon Kane) from a few years back, but not the originals)
-Super Powers-I have Hawkman and Green Arrow, but would like to add a Dr. Fate
my vintage toy holy grails that aren't action figure related are
Milton Bradley's Starbird electronic spaceship
Marx's Mighty Men and Monster Maker
a diecast Phoenix form Battle of the Planets/Gatchaman
I had both as a kid, but they are long gone.
There are other things I keep an eyes out for but they are not grails. I would be interested in the Clash of the Titans and Raiders of the Lost Ark line of toys, but they are mostly out of my price range (especially the Kraken form Clash of the Titans).

Yes! You have the Rhino MASK semi truck! Very jealous! I also appreciate that you have a lot of stuff loose. I like some of the boxes/cards for the artwork but end of the day, I feel toys need to be out and displayed.

I like some of the boxes/cards for the artwork but end of the day, I feel toys need to be out and displayed. I got Rhino for $40 at a convention two years back. Couldn't believe it! I save the boxes, sometimes in case I resell later, often just because of nostalgia, but I store them separately, and I absolutely take everything out of the package. Same reason I don't CGC: what's the point of having it if you can't experience it? And I agree with @mrp that I never seek to complete a toy line. I obtain the pieces I love; nothing more nor less. I tried to be a completist about Justice League Unlimited a decade back and ultimately found the pursuit hollow and unrewarding. |

I was 16/17 when the 90's Spider-Man was running, but I loved the cartoon. Underrated and a bit overshadowed by the greatness that was the DCAU. I take a stroll down the toy section from time to time and over the years I've noticed a lack of Punisher merchandise so I'm not surprised. I'm also not surprised that there IS a lack of Punisher merch. It's more surprising that we have any at all in mainstream outlets. Now M.A.S.K came out when I was at the perfect age to get into the toy's, so I have fond memories of the line and the cartoon. I would have been 7/8 when it hit. As for cracking boxes, I'm a fan of taking figures out and displaying them. I've never been interested in reselling and would rather enjoy looking at them in all their glory. |

For a while, I had considered collecting the old Advanced Dungeons & Dragons PVC monster figures, but they have started to rise in price and I'm not sure if I want to spend $10-$15 per piece. I have the Shambling Mound figure, which is currently going for between $15 and $20 shipped on eBay, so rather than start a collection, I may just sell that off and do something else with the money.
Other than that, I don't have any "grails" (although if I could find an underpriced Red Skull or Dr. Doom Funko POP figure, I would snatch them up; I got into the POP! figures a little too late to grab those, and they are extremely cost-prohibitive for me to get without some kind of incredible luck). Toys just aren't really my thing, as I am far more into comics and some sports cards (I have been putting together sets of baseball and hockey cards from back when I collected in the late 70s and early 80s for as cheaply as I can).

I don't do action figures. But if time and money weren't an object I'd love to have the Mego Superhero's (to go along with the ones from my youth) for nostalgia's sake. And maybe Marx's Johnny West collection for the same reason. But they aren't grails...they're pipe dreams.

For me, vintage toys is all about the hunt and the shows. I have no desire to buy anything on ebay or online, but I love going to shows and shops and seeing what is out there. I enjoy the hunt, meeting people who like similar stuff etc. and actually getting the toy itself is secondary to that. Don't get me wrong, I like coming home with the finds after the show, but its about the act of searching.
