If he wants to spend his energy and make his money on shows I'll never watch, that sounds like a win-win!

If they do something with Prophet along the lines of Brandon Graham's reboot of it from a few years ago, it would make for an awesome (pardon the pun) sci-fi series or movie. Or if they can capture the vibe of Alan Moore's Supreme run in a series, I would definitely tune in. Some good things have been done with Liefeld creations by other creative types, so if they get the right talent matched with the right characters/properties, something good could come out of this. That said, I'm skeptical it will happen, but it could.

If it's a live-action series, it would sidestep the worst thing about Liefeld's work and he had the good sense to hire some good writers in the past years.

I imagine they are going to just use the character names and have pro writers change it totally. But , hey, if these characters are analogues for Superman etc. that means Netflix got them cheap without paying DC and Marvel.

Rob Liefeld, anything that he does ... I'll not waste my time on it.

The Awesome characters are all derivative of ones who are actually known, and it takes zero imagination to just recreate such characters from scratch. I mean, I am a comic-book fan and have no idea how Supreme is significantly different from Superman or how Shaft is different from Hawkeye. If Netflix wants more superhero shows without paying Marvel and DC for their intellectual property, they might as well tell writers to come up with their own stuff!

The pouch budget alone would be enormous.

Good for him for making some money from shows I likely won't watch.

That article doesn't mention any of the actual characters, just that Liefield created Deadpool.. that can't be good. I do wonder why Netflix would pay for those character... they certainly don't have much name recognition outside hardcore comic fans of a certain age, and little of that recognition is positive. Maybe they think Liefield himself is worth it?

Maybe they think Liefield himself is worth it? From the article... so yes it does mention characters, just not all 50+ that the deal encompasses. The deal is for the library of characters, so I don't think any specific shows have been lined up with specific characters yet. It's not optioning specific characters per se, it's a development deal for a library of characters, and it sprung form an earleir deal between Goldsman and Liefeld for Avengylene, which Goldsman is directing for Paramount. I am not a Liefeld fan myself, but ROb sold a lot of comics in the 90s and 90s kids are now in the prime target demographic that movie studios seek, and their nostalgia dollars will be spent of stuff they liked form the 90s not on stuff we liked from earlier. 90s toys are surging int he vintage toy market currently driven by those 90s kids nostalgia dollars, so the time is right to exploit a lot of those 90s properties, whether old curmudgeons like us like them or not. -M

I liked Rob's creations when he wasn't writing them. I really like Moore's Supreme & Youngblood. I also liked Youngblood written by others like Joe Casey. So it would all depend on the writing staff.

I just don't think there's much nostalgia out there for Extreme Studios... I started buying comics at the beginning of its run, and bought some of those titles off the shelf... I have no desire at all to see any of them on the screen.
I agree with RR... if Netflix really wants non-DC and Marvel super heroes, why not make your own? I mean, good for Liefield for making money for himself, but this seems like a terrible idea.

I even see guys in their mid 20s hunting through dollar bins at shows looking for early Image books, and the recent Image documentary on sci-fi has reignited a lot of interest in those books in the secondary market-at least in bargain bins not at any higher price, so yes there is nostalgia out there for the stuff and it is translating to sales at shows. -M
