Hopefully she does a better job with New Gods than she did with Wrinkle in Time. To be fair, the book itself is pretty flat so the fact that other than it's visuals the film is rather uninspiring is on par with it's source but that's hardly a ringing endorsement.

That is the first time I have heard “A Wrinkle in Time” called flat. I read it several times as a child and found it enchanting and terrifying by turns. When I read it more recently to a grade schooler, I wondered whether it was too intense.

When I read it more recently to a grade schooler, I wondered whether it was too intense. Other than the descriptions of the various planets I always found it terribly boring; the characters didn't have much to them and the plot was beyond basic and the threat really suffered from being something we're told about rather than really being shown. Give me the Earth Sea Chronicles, The Never Ending Story, The Chronicles of Prydain ,the Golden Compass or even Harry Potter any day when it comes to children's fantasy.

It's good that she is excited. I kind of hope they keep it as more of its own thing, as I think it works better that way (same with Eternals). Personally, I would keep the thing focused on just the New Gods characters and maybe set up a separate Mister Miracle film series and let them interweave. Forever People can be supporting characters within; but, I kind of feel that they are too much a product of their time, which is why they really haven't worked well after the fact (and weren't nearly as strong in the original, other than the Glorious Godfrey issues and the Slumberland issue). It's a tough nut to crack, making it epic enough to live up to Kirby, while still keeping it coherent and streamlined enough for a film length. Really, I think the property would be better served with a Game of Thrones-style treatment, allowing all of the 4th World to be explored.
