Today
continues It’s Six Part series Examining
This week we look at
The Issue starts right off with Wally West as the Flash fighting members of an Ultra High-Tech Criminal syndicate that has moved into the Central/Keystone area to establish a base for their operations.
In this case the Gang’s objective is to rob a billion Dollar train that’s passing through Keystone. Wally intercepts the train and is working overtime to put the Gang’s operatives out of action. Jay comes in
and adds an assist but this makes the goons even more dangerous
Wally and Jay push themselves into overdrive to get the innocent bystanders out of the way.
it’s at this point that “Barry” arrives
Jay soon joins in adding his power to Barry’s…. Before Long Wally gets in on the act and between the three of them.
Gotta love the differences in expression on the faces of the three speedsters. Wally and Jay both look ready to pass out meanwhile “Barry” merely has a look of what I can only call Smug Satisfaction.
As the three Flashes catch their breathes a youngster asks “Flash” for his autograph. Wally stops and turns only too happy to oblige when he realizes the Flash being asked was not himself or Jay but
“Barry”. Wally looks on smiling as his mentor has a well deserved moment in the spotlight.
Later however Wally expresses a certain degree of feeling left out to Linda at home. Linda suggests that maybe having Three heroes named Flash in the same area is redundant and maybe Wally
should take a new name. Wally shoots down each one in succession when Linda finishes with the idea that Wally call himself “Mr. Zip” Wally punctuates his dismissal of that name with a furious hyper
speed tickle attack on Linda. just as things are about to get too mature for some readers Jay calls saying that the Police have discovered a warehouse belonging to the gang that hit the train. Wally insists
that he’s keeping The Flash as his name and that’s the end of it. Wally races around the City looking for “Barry”. Wally soon finds him in the very alley where “Barry” originally materialized.“Barry” explains
that he’s feeling disoriented at having returned with no memory of the time passage between his disappearance and his return. He questions the how and why lot which Wally responds..
The three arrive at the police gathering outside the warehouse “Barry” is all set to blow into the place but Wally and Jay suggest he holds back when “Barry” asks if they’re just supposed to wait out the Gang…
The three flashes go into action and hold theyr own until Wally get’s buried in a collapsing wall of rubble. the Gang Members shout out boasts of having Killed the Flash which causes Barry to lose it.
As “Barry” tears into the thugs on the tank Wally digs himself out of the rubble and half deaf from the sonic boom he races to stop his Uncle before he kills the thugs.
Wally’s soon at home his head bandaged. he’s moping and Linda is doing her best to reassure him that “Barry” only cares about Wally’s safety but Wally now believes differently as he recalls hearing
what “Barry” was screaming…
It’s funny…Every time I read that last panel I can’t help but think of Mark Hamill as the Trickster in the 1990 Flash TV Series. (at the end of the Episode Trickster is locked up in a paddy wagon screaming
out the window
“That’s my Costume! I’M THE FLASH! WON’T SOMEBODY LISTEN TO ME?!?
I’M THE FLASH! YOU MORONS! I’M THE FLAAAASH!!!!!”
Anyway, If “Barry” seemed condescending to Wally last issue, It seems to be somewhat toned down here until the end.
Wally on the other hand is beginning to feel a bit over-shadowed as “Barry” takes the limelight and with both Jay and Barry back wally feels as if he’s been relegated to the sidelines.
Linda is of course only aware that Wally’s Ego is taking a bump and is just trying to console him not realizing that something far worse is coming. Of Course at this point, even wally isn’t aware of how
bad it’s going to get. After i read this issue My mind exploded with possibilities as to the nature of “Barry’s” true story. My earlier instincts about him not being Barry were growing….
Well that’s just about it for this month. Except… well as with last issue I had a bit of fun with the New52 using this issue’s final Panel as a base.
Enjoy!
