Where do you live? In the late 70's, when I used to go there, there were over 1,000 Big Boys in the US, but now there are only 77, and I think most of them are in Michigan. I actually thought they had gone out of business altogether until I looked it up. Ohio. There are at least 6-8 I know of in the Dayton-Columbus hub, not sure about the rest of the state. -M

dbutler69 ... I visited Big Boy about 4-6 times during the 70's in California seeing Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland as a kid. Ha, I bet I went to that same one!

Read the Wikipedia article closely - there are 77 owned or franchised by Big Boy Restaurants International, and another 250+ owned by Frisch's, which is now an independent co-owner of the Big Boy name and trademark.

The Big Boys in Utah, Idaho and some other surrounding states were JB's Big Boy when I was young. The closest one was about 40 miles away. There are still 14 JB's Restaurants left though they aren't affiliated with Big Boy any more. I think there are only two left in Idaho.

Prince Hal mentioning cereal box dinosaurs in another thread made me think of the Soldiers of the world figures I'd get from Kellogg. Anyone else collected those back in the late '60s-early '70s? Breakfast cereal back then came with thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and a lot of adventure!

I remember some other great premiums, too: baseball players, baseball cards (on the back of Post cereal boxes), cars of all kinds, jungle animals, and planes, too, IIRC. Spilled a lot of cereal digging those out...

Spilled a lot of cereal digging those out... There's one type of cereal collectible I can't find any mention of on the web... they were plastic figures, like the above mentioned soldiers of the world, but they were huge... like 5 or 6 inches tall. The ones I owned were both Gauls (Vercingetorix-like), which seems a bit specific as far as toy soldiers go. One of them was quite regal looking, with a winged helmet, standing tall with his hand on the pommel of his sword, while the other had a horned helmet and was swinging his weapon in a very dynamic pose. How that much plastic fit into a cereal box is still a puzzle to me, but at the time I didn't mind!

My Dad has one of these WatchesCOMMODORE AUTHENTIC VINTAGE 1970s RED DISPLAY LED WATCH NEW OLD STOCK - $72.42. Menu Home Mini Clocks Mini Clocks Novelty Transportation Music Sports Animals HOWARD MILLER CLOCKS Watches POLICIES... He had it in the year 1975 and after a year of wearing it ... he got rid of it because it is too sporty and his boss from work told him that this watch is not executive material. He gave it away to his brother in law and he had this watch for 20 years before it gave out. Cool watch and one of the very first digital watches.
