from Bleeding CoolI would be interested to see how this plays out on the big screen, it certainly is cinematic in scope, but I can already hear (okay read) the complaints of some folks around here if this does come to pass. -M

Yeah, I don't expect anything good to come from it. Nothing in Marvel's past history, comics or film, gives us any reason to think they'll engage in an intelligent way with the ideas underlying the series, and everything derives from that. If that makes me a "hater", so be it.

I'd give it a look-see, if only because I'd love to see Karkas on screen, but I wouldn't go in with high expectations.
Cei-U! I summon the cautious optimism!

If they kept it its own little world, it would be great, though a lot of that material has been mined by other media properties. If they tie it into the other films, I can't see it being anything much like the original. It would be cool to see it competing with the alleged 4th World movie; two Kirby films at the same time. Won't hold my breath, though.
I have trouble seeing a movie that will be true to Kirby's ideas. More than likely, it would be something more akin to the Gaiman mini-series or something along those lines. You still have some good character potential, if you want to play up Kro being in love with Thena, Karkas being a poet in a monstrous body, and Reject being an Adonis from a world of mutants and monsters. Not to mention, the fun of Sersi, with the right casting. (Lena Hendry?)

The Kro/Thena relationship is one of the many things that's been consistently misunderstood by later writers, IMO: they tend to use it as a means to humanise Thena, to supposedly make the character more easy for readers to relate to by playing up the romantic angle. But the fact that Thena rejects the romantic relationship with Kro and instead takes the Reject and Karkas under her wing, rescues them from Deviant Lemuria, and brings them to Eternal Olympia - all that is one of the crucial turning points elements in the series and one of the keys to the whole Eternals concept.
But later writers haven't taken any interest in the ideas that underlie the series, they just want a story they think their readers can relate to, so they ignore all that in favour of a soap opera romantic sub-plot that is completely at odds with the particular characters involved and the tone of the series in general.
I think Codystarbuck is probably right in surmising that the movie is more likely to be influenced by gaiman's miniseries and the Knauf series that followed it than by anything from the Kirby original. Unfortunately.

Kevin Feige has confirmed it's being developed (in the sense of "working on a proposal", not "being filmed"), but the whole idea has me nervous - I suppose it could be done as a straight SF film, though (as I've said many times in the past) I don't have a lot of confidence in the source material

I'm hopeful.
This could be super cool.
I'd be very very excited about this.
I'm wanting both this and New Gods to work but actually expect this to do better, depending on how it's put together.

She'll play Sersi of course.
Perfect casting.

I'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie, myself, though she's obviously a highly successful actress. I understand that it's impressive on the commercial level that they've cast such a big star, but it doesn't make the project any more attractive to me.

I believe Jolie is more Marvel STUNT casting utilizing a big name to garner others into participating in the movie. Doubt she will be Sersi' since it is most likely Sersi, Ikaris, Thena, Makkari, Sprite, Ajak, Gilgamesh the Forgotten One are the major "name recognition" characters who could be in more than one movie. Jolie fits more into the one and done or ongoing character for special scenes or moments like Goldblum's Grand Master or del Toro's Collector or Swinton's Ancient One.

I've seen two different sites today do stories saying there has been confirmation her role is that of Sersi. I'll await official confirmation from Feige or Marvel to be certain, but it eems more likely she will be a centerpiece of the film not an ancillary character. -M

Reports/rumors are surfacing that Richard Maddon (who played Robb Stark on Game of Thrones) is in negotiations/has been cast to play Ikarus in the Eternals movie.
