Relevant to the Stones discussion a while back, I'm listening to a show on mixcloud devoted to songs that the Stones covered + some of their cover versions.

I am listening to Aerosmith's most recent album and being annoyed that it's not better. I will say, though, that on my Spotify, cutting the deluxe edition down from 18 songs to 10 has dramatically improved both the flow and my overall impression. I'm about 50/50 for making it 9 instead of 10 remaining, and then you have a par if not exciting 90s Aerosmith album. Maybe nothing quite rises to the best of those songs, but a few get close, and the remaining ones would at least not sound too out of place.
Also annoyed that one of the better songs from the sessions, a cover of a Motown song, was exclusive to the Japanese release, so I don't have it. That would easily make the cut over at least 12 of the songs officially released in USA, and that is sad.
Megadeth did the same on their 2016 Dystopia. One of the best songs was only on the Japanese version which is very annoying because I want to give them money for it. I refuse to buy an out of print CD I already own from some importer for $50 to get one song, knowing the band won't see a penny from it anyway.

Avril Lavigne's albums Let Go and Under My Skin really aged well in the "music to mark exams by" department. Has it been nearly 20 years? My God, how time flies.
The lyrics are often embarrassing; boy, are we focused on our little navel when we're that young! But as long as the music's good, I'm not complaining.

This has been popping up on the blues channel I listen to at night quite often, and is one of the songs I want to add to my constructed playlists...

40 years ago, Duran Duran's Planet Earth was on the charts, released in Feb 1981....I wasn't born yet but they're my mum's favourite band and I'm 2nd generation...
So I'm on a Duran Duran high right now...and love getting bootlegs that were taken straight from the soundboard so the quality is excellent.

I remember it being in the charts and them appearing on Top of the Pops to perform it very well. I was only 8 years old at the time, but I liked it, even though I didn't buy it. I was buying singles by Adam & the Ants, and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark at the time.

The Everly Brothers' So Sad (to see good love go bad) has been stuck in my head the last few days. That led me to the Françoise Hardy cover I posted in the Favourite Covers thread, which in turn led me to this song, a new one to me, though it's been around since the early 60s. It's a French version of an American folk song called 500 Miles:
This might be a little too much on the sappy side for some listeners but I think it's great, though I'd prefer it were sung all the way through instead of the spoken word verse.
