A gray morning light drizzles all the way in to work enjoying the strumming of the great Ottmar Liebert on his Nouveau Flamenco CD. Nice way to drive in and begin getting ready for the weekend.

I'm listening to Riders in the Sky's "Riders Radio Theater" (and others) in preparation for seeing them in concert tonight. They'll be playing at the Historic Wilson Theater, a beautifully restored 1920 theater in my home town of Rupert, Idaho.

This song showed up in my youtube feed over the weekend, so I bought it on itunes. I forgot how a wholesome, happy feeling this song has.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum today... "doom jazz".
I was off work for a few days, and It feels like I'm working in a surreal Euro film noir movie today... basically if Fellini and Bergman got together to remake "The Maltese Falcon"... that's kind of how my day has been so far. this album is perfect for non-intrusive background soundscaping.

This song showed up in my youtube feed over the weekend, so I bought it on itunes. I forgot how a wholesome, happy feeling this song has. I'm old enough to remember when this was a huge radio hit - I thnk I was in grade 6 or thereabouts. It feels like two separate songs put together to me:
The bouncy chorus is undeniably catchy but kind of annoyingly so - at any rate, I find I get tired of it very quickly - almost before the song is over!
But the verses, I really like - especially the beginning phrases ("Baby you and me-ee ..." and "At night I call your name ...") which sound Dean Martin-like to me. I don't get tired of the verses.

Discussion in the Star Wars thread made me feel like putting this soundtrack on. I thought Joel McNeely did a great job following in the footsteps of John Williams for this, a daunting undertaking in that regard. This is my favorite track, the first 1:25 or so feels a little reminiscent of Stravinsky's The Firebird to me, and builds up tension nicely to the somewhat exotic sounding and haunting main melody:

I have a couple of gaming music soundtracks that I curate for when we play D&D or other rpgs. The three lists are usually 1) general gaming music, 2) ominous music and 3) combat music, and have my Alexa near my DM station to choose the playlist appropriate for the current situation at the table. I often also play this music when I am working on material for the game if I want something on in the background that's not going to distract me (it alternates with jazz in these moments). Dominating those playlists, which are often drawn form soundtracks, ambient music, etc. is a group called Midnight Syndicate, whom I discovered circa 2004 when they released a D&D soundtrack. This still gets a lot of play, and right now this soundtrack is even in the CD player in my car for when I don't feel lick roots music to listen to. I've been doing prep for our next session on Sunday this morning, and had a bunch of Midnight Syndicate on in the background.

Been falling down a Psychedelic Furs shaped rabbit hole and am enjoying every moment of it.
I remember when my mom first introduced me to them during my teen years, all I cared about was "Dumb Waiters", but then I heard "Love My Way" on one of the radio stations on GTA: Vice City I think and fell in love with them
