Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for the new Dune movie.
I've always liked soundtracks, so I thought I'd get this one even before seeing the film. Toto's and Brian Eno's soundtrack for the David Lynch version remains a favourite of mine, and I loved Brian Tyler's score for the Children of Dune mini-series, so why break a winning run?
As one would expect, the music here is pretty moody, appropriate for what I imagine will be many cinematic reflective moments. We are treated to Zimmer's usual musical signatures, naturally (lots of deep cellos and bwOOOOoump sounds), with a hefty dose of Middle-Eastern influence at times (and vocal work in what I assume is an invented language). I enjoyed how Zimmer seems to pay tribute to the Toto score here and there.
I can't say that there's any theme that I could whistle afterwards (unlike, say, Pirates of the Caribbean or Batman), but this is music that really seems to tell a story (as had been the case with Zimmer's score for Blade Runner 2049). Some moments are actually pretty noteworthy; the Bene Gesserit theme reflects the group's scary secretiveness, and the Gom Jabbar theme (the one from the trailer) is pretty epic.
Zimmer's music always sounds more "experimental", so to speak, than, say, James Horner's or John Williams, but I usually like it a lot. It's great background music for marking exams, as I am now discovering.

One of the preview tracks from the new Duran Duran album "Future Past" out next month....Simon Le Bon is almost 63 but his vocals still sound like something from the 80s....

Good choice. If you like that sort of thing, The Bomboras and The Space Cossacks are a pretty good bet too.

This song's been in my head for days. One of the classics of big band swing - Begin the Beguine by the Artie Shaw Orchestra.

I didn't learn the name of the tune for decades, but it always takes me back to those golden days. Along with Sing, sing, sing and In the mood, it forms the holy trinity of Big Band classics for me.

My favourite vocal performance is Ella Fitzgerald's on the Cole Porter Songbook album, though I don't really like the arrangement, I think by Nelson Riddle - a bit too loud and heavy on the brass for my taste.
