Listening to a few CDs I checked out of the library-Warren Haynes featuring Railroad Earth: Ashes & Dust, Buddy Guy: Born to Play Guitar and Sonny Landreth: Bound by the Blues, and a live Gary Clark Jr. double CD.

Village Green Preservation Society by the Kinks Where do you rate this one amongst their classics, if you're into their stuff? My cut-off is Sleepwalker. I love the title song to their next one after that, Misfits, but the rest of that album wasn't that good and nothing that came afterwards really grabbed me, with the exception of the solo Ray Davies record, Return to Waterloo, which I think is pretty special.

I think Village Green Preservation society is their best work and has only grown with popularity since it's release considering how it was received when it first came out. I just love the song Village Green...I can listen to it over and over again. Everything from Face to Face to Muswell Hillbillies (excluding Percy and Lola Versus Powerman...I thing the song Lola is highly overrated) is their best period. My cut off album is Sleepwalker also...I pretty much love every song on that album. Everything from Everbodys in Showbiz to Schoolboys in Disguise are pretty "meh" to me although I have a soft spot for School Boys in Disguise...don't really care for Davies's concept albums by this point. I have everything on vinyl though up until State of confusion thouh.

If I had to pick a favorite song from the album it would be either Time Fades Away or Don't Be Denied...but like you said they're all good. I like Tonight's the Night a lot also...very raw feel to it. The other album of the famed "Dark Trilogy" On the Beach is also one of my faves. Very dark albums.

I've been listening to a lot of heavy thrash metal, a la Slayer, but I'm tired of being yelled at. I was digging some of the late 90s/early 00's garage rock throwback bands like The Vines, Jet. etc, but I'm looking for something with that throwback raw vibe that's a little heavier, kind of like a garage metal band. The Vines get close, but not quite. Anyone got anything like that? I'm sure Dan B. has something good and punky.

Halloween is coming up, so I'm listening to some Goth at the moment - Bauhaus, Clan of Xymox, etc.

I thought this was a music thread? People listen to music...they also listen to other recorded material....it's what are you listening to in general. -M

I march to the beat my own drummer...that I'm not listening to because that'd be music. My marching is terribly haphazard.
