I've really been enjoying McCartney's new album, Egypt Station. There are more than a few tracks that are darn catchy.

During the drive in to work this morning Jane Monheit's 1st CD Never Never Land from May 2000. She was only 22 years old at the time but damn if her voice isn't an old souls belting forth. You can really feel her love for these style of songs when listening and her skills are top notch. She is simply smooth, silky, sultry and so very talented.

One thing I love right now is all these re-releases of old favourite albums with bonus tracks - especially songs that never made it onto the original album and alternate or early versions of those that did (not so much later live tracks, those are much less interesting, I've found). In that spirit, here's one track that's fascinated me the last month or two:
I remembered this as a solid track on what I think of as an underestimated Fleetwood Mac album, but hearing this earlier take opened my ears to it anew - it almost feels like a completely new song, even though the changes on the album release aren't all that drastic. I think in a general way that perhaps because it's basically a country song, the roughness of this earlier take brings out its quality more felicitously than the possibly over-rehearsed official release. What do you think?

Recently been getting back into bands I liked as a teenager, not sure why, some do have new stuff coming out soon so that helps. Anyway led me back to Misfits who not got anything new out but having not listened for a while forgot why i liked them so much. Some really good horror punk, catchy, just not the thing to hum to yourself in public maybe XD

Discovered this band this past week. Am already a fan. Nice! I've always been more of a casual fan of Sisters of Mercy, but there are some of their songs in rotation in my playlists to this day. I really like their cover of "Gimme Shelter", and it's always fun to run into the almost-11 minute version of "This Corrosion" on a car trip.

Right this minute? Late 70's arena rock (Boston, Foreigner, Journey, Styx) on vinyl.

I was listening to the complete recordings of a late '70s group from Leeds named The Squares... another shoulda been bigger story like The Bus Boys, The Spongetones, and The Grapes Of Wrath.
P.S.: Those Mirage extras/outtakes/demos are great! Had the album on release and liked it a lot (was not a fan at all of 90% of that 2LP Tusk at the time).

Discovered this band this past week. Am already a fan. You really can't top Sisters Of Mercy. My favorite song of their's is After Hours, it's just so damned dark and brooding, Neverland is a close second (I almost always mishear the opening line as "did my ass break your fall") Like The Captain said, they also did an amazing cover of Gimmie Shelter by The Rolling Stones
