I trademarked my name two years ago. Swore I'd kill any turniphead that tried to use it

13 Members got 1 vote a piece -- that's got to be a record of some sorts. Congratulations -- chaykinstevens

Congrats chaykinstevens. That was a great cover among a very strong field. A few covers I also considered (there are so many good ones that fit this contest.)

Since chaykinstevens won with that Spider-Man/Luke Cage cover, I think he's obligated to at least try to explain what "strap-hanger types" are.
Not the first time Marvel 70's slang baffled me.

Strap-Hangers is a nickname for people who ride the subway in NYC. I suppose Cage is saying Spidey might scare the regular folk, but he's not impressed.
The Subway cars have metal poles for standing people to hang on to. But in the old days they were leather and canvas straps.

Thanks! I guess they were trying to give some local color to the dialogue, but back then there was almost no way for the vast majority of us outside of NYC (or presumably, other subway-served cities) to find out what the heck that term meant. I suppose everybody in NYC called each other "Laughing Boy", too?

The voters are a fickle lot, I wouldn't second guess.
