Those cards are so lazy. Considering that most folks are going to keep these unopened, it seems like Mego could have spent a few extra bucks to at least give the cards a vintage look, if nothing else. They wanted to/ DC licensing rejected it, and mandated this style of trade dress. They want uniform trade dress across all manufacturers. The Star Trek trade dress is the same. It's mandated by Paramount and Paramount rejected Mego's proposal for more retro-inspired trade dress. So this one isn't laziness on Mego's part, it's tone deafness on the licensing department at Warner that oversees DC merch. They look like that because DC licensing wants them to look like that. -M Perhaps so that it won't outsell their own toy lines?

The other toylines have crappy plain trade dress in the same style as well. Here's a Star Trek TNG Bend 'em figure not produced by Mego... Here's the Mego Picard figure the trade dress is the same. It's not being designed by Mego, it's being given to them by the licensing departments of the companies. Here's the Spinmasters Superman figure released in 2020 Here's the Mego Superman from 2020 it's essentially the same trade dress-Superman logo and name, DC logo and simple solid color background. Again given to companies by the license holders marketing department, not designed by the companies making the toys. -M

I broke down and picked up the Walmart exclusive Black Widow, and as feared it opened the floodgates. In addition to Thunderstrike, I’ve also ordered Black Knight (for my Avengers lineup), classic Loki, Weapon X, and the Skurge/Hela 2-pack, and have pre-ordered classic Hercules (also for my Avengers lineup) and Maestro. I also grabbed the Xemnu wave yesterday, but I’ve already opened them and displayed. When I get around to taking pics of my collection they’ll be in there.

I tracked down a Black Knight, and he looks great, but he is considerably smaller than Thunderstrike, basically the same size as Black Widow. I know the scale on these figures isn’t perfect, and assuming Thunderstrike is the same size as Thor he’s got six inches in Dane, but it still seems odd to me.

Picked these two up to complete the first wave of the NECA Defenders of the Earth line... I picked up Ming a while back, and never got back to pick up these two until today. As part of ComicCon at home, NECA announced Wave two as well as retro-figures homaging the line of figures based on the Flash Gordon Filmation animated series and a pair of Flash Gordon movie homage figures. They also hinted the line could be expanded to include other heroes like Tarzan and Zorro. -M

Sorakage from Goldran (Sonokong reissue of Takara version) I bought the entire Sonokong Goldron about 15 years back and still consider it the centerpiece of my collection. Beautifully engineered!

Scored this classic at Walmart for our niece. How cool is it to repurchase these toys 30 years later for the next generation of fans! Tempting not to open it for myself but I've got a few pre-ordered retro wave Marvel Legends I'm anticipating. Black costume Spidey, Ben Grimm, and 20th Anniversary Captain America!

That's the exact expression my father has when he's trying to get the waiter's attention to complain about something.

I bought something besides a Marvel Legends 3.75. I was purposefully only buying from the one line, but I couldn't resist this one, a Spinmasters Gorilla Grodd. -M

So Roma Collectibles, the new vintage toy store that opened here in town, whose owner I have known form the con circuit for nearly 10 years, was having a Christmas Eve day spectacular this afternoon. I stopped in and took advantage of the sale (10-25% off depending on what it was, the stuff I got was from the 25% off racks) to pick up 2 things... one of the McFarlane Conan figures... and the Toy Biz Famous Covers Daredevil (a Mego-inspired line bu in 9 inch scale not 8 inch) from the 90s... -M
