Action Comics #1003Written by Brian Michael Bendis Art by Yanick Paquette Summary: Ms. Goode goes out and gets herself some grade-A Krytonite...but is it really for a story or is there more going on? Plot: Despite my distaste for his work on Superman I've really been enjoying Bendis' mystery here in Action Comics, and while this particular issue felt a little like filler it had its moments and over all the story is still a lot of fun. Superman is a character that is a lot of fun when involved in big, over the top, world saving adventures but he also works well in small, street level stories as well and that's what Bendis has been focusing on here and he's been doing a great job. I've loved the look he's given us of what the under world is like in Metropolis and the strategies they take to avoid Big Blue's detection and the mystery over the new villain has been played really tightly...but that was all missing in this issue and what we got in this issue: Goode getting Kryptonite, Clark then getting sick at the planet and then Batman stealing the Kryptonite back , didn't really move anything forward or give any insight into Clark or his struggles. That said, the actual scene where Batman mugs Goode was fun. Art: Paquette wasn't given a whole lot to work with here but I love the way he draws the characters, especially Batman, they just look suitably larger than life which is just perfect for a superhero book. Grade: 6/10 Bendis is hitting it out of the park with his Superman and Action books. The Batman cameo was brilliant. I'm not too enamored with Superman, I think Rogal Thar is boring as all get out, but Action has been great and I agree he wrote Batman perfectly here.

The new Superman villain is so so ,I agree. But the way Superman is being written is perfect. I love the use of his powers and the confidence he exhibits.

Yeah, Bendis really get's his voice and the up beat tone is perfect. I think it was in the last issue of Superman, it might have been earlier, but there was looting going on and Bendis had Big Blue just drop in real quick, admonish the looter and then leave...and it was just perfect. When they eventually do a new Superman movie I really hope they do a scene like that.

Stranger Things #1Written by Jody Houser Art by Stefano Martino Summary: Will is missing and the whole town of Hawkins is out combing the countryside for him...only he isn't there, he's in the Upside Down! Plot: When I saw this book I originally thought that it was like the Strain books Dark Horse put out a little while back in that it was a straight adaptation of the show and so I had little interest in picking it up...but Jody Houser (who did excellent work in adapting Rogue One and Orphan Black) was smarter than that. Instead of just retelling what we already saw Houser decided to go in a different direction and instead tell a companion story to the first season; the story of how Will Byers survived in the Upside Down. At first glance that may seem a little unnecessary as we know the broad strokes of what he did, namely running around trying to make contact with his friends and family until being rescued by Hopper, and if Houser only focused on the action elements it would be just as unnecessary as that sounds but instead she focuses heavily on Will as a character and how he sees the world around him which really gives him some much needed characterization. On top of that the D&D focus gives you that same nostalgic feel that the show so artfully captures which is a great trick. Art: Martino's clean, slightly simplistic line work reminds me a lot of the old EC horror mags, which while not from the 80's would certainly be something the gang would have read so it fit really well, I only wish the coloring would have had a more retro feel to it. Grade:8/10

Archie Meets Batman #66 #3 by Jeff Parker, Michael Moreci, Dan Parent, and J. Bone: The villains continue to take over Riverdale by having the Siren use her abilities to control the grown ups. Not too much happens to advance the plot, except that Jughead realizes something isn't quite right at Pop Tates and gets in hot water with the Joker. Batman has an interesting scene that was like something straight out of the old show as he battles the Bookworm. There is a scene Batman would definitely take issue with as Barbara and Dick offer Betty and Archie a ride on their motorcycle but don't have helmets for them. Holy safety issue, Batman!! There is a quick scene featuring Barbara in her classic swimsuit from the show. Yes, not much happens here, but this is definitely a fun book! 7/10

@mrjupiter ... I just re-read #1 & read #2 to #4 of the Terrifics and to be short and simple -- I just find this team quite refreshing and enjoyable to read and I should get started on #5 to #8 by this weekend. I have a lot of things to do this Wednesday and Thursday this week and I'll try to get caught up. I just saw the Archie meets Batman 66 and that's another book that I want to explore and totally forgot about it.
The Terrifics stories are surprisingly good and the art is top notch. That's all for now ...

Action 1003: My thoughts...I enjoyed this issue although not much happened other than Miss Goode and the kryptonite....but that scene with Batman! I haven’t been a fan of Batman since his books went all dark and depressing but here, I enjoyed his having Superman’s back. Looking forward to seeing what is up with Lois and for miss goode to get her comeuppance! The art was awesome and I loved the pinball machines (sugar and spike, Batman and Robin, and ambush bug!) 8/10

I just loved the Bookworm here and like you said it's a FUN book and did a great job putting it all together. Art is quite decent and the writing is not bad all all ... Total Grade for all 3 issues Art wise is about 8/10 and the Writing is about a 7/10. Decent Series.

I just read issue #5 of the Terrifics -- This is the most insane issue ever and whole freaking armies of Metamorpho and everyone gone nuts. I was stunned by this issue and it was totally -- to me it is Jeff Lemire best work ever his creativity in this series is off the chart and taken this to new heights. I just find this group totally unique and it has that Fantastic Four feel. The art by Evan "Doc" Shaner is superb and this becoming more a favorite of mine and it's actually a bit better than Hawkman here. I'm going to be busy in the next couple of days and hope to have #6 to #8 done by Saturday.
Grade is 9/10 for the work of Lemire and Shaner here. They are doing a very good job on it.

Action is definitely much better than Superman right now.

Action is definitely head and shoulders above Superman in my books, and I totally agree that the Batman scenes were great. I'd love to see Bendis take a crack at Batmen when he's done here with Superman.

I haven't read any Bendis Superman yet.. is he using Jon at all? (the reviews don't mention him) That's about the only downside, he jettisoned Jon off the map and has him on an off panel road trip through the Galaxy with Grampa Jor El. I really miss the family dynamic that the Super-books had before and sending Jon away and putting Lois and Clark in what appears to be a "conscious uncoupling" is pretty dumb...but at least he didn't kill them. It's a little frustrating at times because he gets sooo much right about the distinct voices of Clark and Superman and the daily planet cast...but he ignores what made the last run so perfect completely.

I have a question- I'm out of the loop as far as Superman continuity but who is the Lois that's appearing in the Acton book ? I thought she was traveling with her son and Jorel .
