I'd be willing to spend $$ on a good deal if I could flip it, but that's the rare instance IMO.
What I'm willing to pony up more on is original art.
I have some and am always looking to get more.

I bought a lot of original art before prices went crazy, but w/ family and things, never spent more than $150 out of pocket on anything. I have more expensive pieces, but financed those by selling other stuff.
I honestly, after buying a few ECs, could never justify spending even $50 on a comic. And when so much EC and Silver Age stuff became easily available in reprints, my desire to spend more than $3 or $4 on an old book just evaporated.
For the past few years, I scratch my collecting itch with stuff like mid-century girlie barware, Shriner fezzes, and big-eye kid prints.

I just sold my copy of Showcase 22 just 30 minutes ago for $2300 to help pay for my car repairs and get a new loveseat for my Condo. A young man in his late 20's from my LCS and he wanted that book bad and made a $280 profit from it. I'll be depositing the money to my Bank in a few minutes and proceed from there and informed IKEA to deliver the loveseat next week. I deleted my copy of Showcase 22 from my IMGUR account today because I don't have it anymore. I post it somewhere in this forum and can't remember where.

I sold my whole collection last year. I have a long post in me about this when I have time to muse.

I sold my whole collection last year. I have a long post in me about this when I have time to muse. Ideally I'd like to pass on mine, and their resale opportunities, to my kids (who are still kids). But in the event they lose interest, I'll be selling them all before I turn into a cranky old lady. Currently approaching 7,000.
I had 3,000, 8 to 10 years ago and I just can't imagine what nearly 7,000 looks like ... that's a lot of floppies here and there ... I only have 127 books of the JLA done by Grant Morrison and Company left to go and that should be sold in the next 3-6 months from now and when that done; no more floppies for me. I'll be reading books at my friend's place who have over 100 DC Archives and Marvel Masterpieces and some selected TPB for me to read at any time I want.

My collection was over 30 long boxes, around 10,000 books.

Im about that size too. 6500 I think. I found this storage helps. And I acquired one more cabinet to store the rest of my collection this past weekend. I’m fairly done collecting. I’ve probably bought 500 comics in the last 7-8 years. I’d like to hang on to what I have but I don’t plan on expanding my collection much more. So I think this second cabinet will hold my future purchases.

I have about 10,000 floppies and the only "untouchables" in the collection are my complete Captain America run and my copy of X-Men #13 (which I've written about in other threads as to why).
That said, there are certainly some books in my collection that would give me pause to get rid of. I have high-grade copies of Tomb of Dracula #1 and #10, X-Men #10 and #94, Doctor Strange #1, Defenders #1, and Luke Cage #1, and it would be hard to part with those.
Other than those, there is nothing that I wouldn't sell IF I had to, but thankfully, my wife and I have been blessed to this point with not having to make decisions like that. If necessary, I have long runs of Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Conan, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, and Uncanny X-Men that I would be willing to sell to make ends meet or fund other activities.
How I usually fund other things is by buying whole collections of Magic: The Gathering cards from people who need quick cash and flip the valuable ones on eBay. I've made a significant amount of money the past two years doing this, and it pays for things like comics and collectibles and has allowed me to create a little back-up fund if times got tight.

While my comics have brought me untold hours of entertainment... to me they are just possessions. I have sold my entire collection twice. I have given away parts of my collection several times to family or donated them. I have sold parts of my collections to make some money or just to clear out some space.
I am a reader. I buy them to read and entertain me. I buy them for the "experience", to make me happy. I really don't care if they make me money someday.

Thanks to all who have weighed in!
I am going to keep everything currently in my collection. The keys, as some have said, are just not worth selling/trading just to get another higher priced book. I worry I would lament the loss more than love the gain, if that makes any sense.
Financially, I dont have to sell. It was more so I try to maintain this hobby by having it pay for itself. I still have about 200 comics laying around to trade and sell and so I will just focus on moving them for now.

I think I'm weird. While I buy comics to read them, and buy things I want to read, rather that that I want to have, I don't really like to give stuff up once I have it. In recent years I've been trying to get rid of stuff I know I'll never look at again (like the 90s image stuff, or series I got an issue or two of and didn't like).
I did buy I little series called Walking Dead off the shelf back in 2003 as an impulse buy towards the end of my visiting the start every week time... I made a small profit on it selling it around 5 years ago, that allowed me to catch up on a good 3 year worth of Marvel I had missed out on.
