Perez announces retirementI know he's been facing health problems of late so I can completely understand his decision in this regard. Still, it's sad to hear, one of my all-time favorite artists. I was fortunate enough to meet him several years ago at HeroesCon and he was a blast, a true ambassador of the joy and fun of comics.

He had a great run. My favorites were the New Teen Titans and his various Avengers issues.

Posted this first elsewhere, but maybe worth a repeat... You could always tell that Mr. Perez cared by the quality of his work. He imbued the characters with some real life, which is all you can ask for. If only we could literally wish him well.

George Perez was my first favorite comic book artist. I've mentioned a time or two before how many times I used tracing paper and tried to recreate the image of Thor on the splash page of Avengers #162, and that you could see the pencil grooves in the pages of my childhood copy. Perez at DC was what got me to first show some interest in DC after being a Marvel zombie kid for the most part and led me to picking up Crisis on Infinite Earths #9 on the racks of a 7-11 if the aftermath of Hurricane Gloria when we had no power and I was picking up stacks of comics to read and kill time. That led me into a deep dive into DC, and New Teen Titans and his JLA run were among the first back issue purchases I made of DC books. I can't remember a time where I didn't love George's work in comics. As I have gotten older and explored more comics, there are some other artists I have come to appreciate more than Perez, but George will always have a special place in comics for me as my first favorite comic artist. I wish him well in his retirement and I still have a huge body of his work I can revisit and still enjoy his work.

One of the best and I always loved seeing/reading interviews with him.
Loved New Teen Titans and his work at Crossgen in particular.

And the dream of one day commissioning Mr. Perez to illustrate a story of mine has been broken....

I've been a fan since his very first issue of the Avengers, sorry to hear he can't do comics any more.

George had a great career. I loved the way he’d painstakingly draw all that rubble in thise great fight scenes in Fantastic Four. Perez never cut corners; he was a true professional and a true gentleman.
His take on Wonder Woman was brilliant, too, and my favourite version of the character.
I hope that his health, while not allowing him a continued career, will grant him many, many years of happy retirement. He deserves it!

Adore me some George Perez always and forever! Leaves a lasting legacy of comic book joys for fans of old and new fans to discover. Another reminder of how all the stars of "classic" comics we grew up with have aged while we still see them all in our mind eyes as young, fresh and vibrant each time we open up their comic books. Glad to see that health hasn't dimmed George's LOVE of his comic books and that he will still attend some conventions. Was glad to have met him twice and say THANKS for the fun and happiness his art has delivered me in my youth and those feelings remain with me today as an adult whenever I see his art, old or new.

I've followed him since his early days at Marvel and watched his work rapidly mature where he became--with ease--one of the top 10 greatest comic book artists of all time--in the superhero genre in particular. He was one of the few to actually elevate the medium and not just exist within it, unlike too many who just scribbled out unremarkable, unmemorable pages. While its sad to learn he's retiring, his life always comes first.
