This week's contest calls for covers that take place inside or outside a movie theater or drive in. The Rules: - Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. - Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before 1 February 2009. - Covers must be posted before voting begins. - Voting takes place on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, beginning at 12:01am PST and ending at 11:59pm PST. - Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most. - Put the name of your choice in bold. - The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. - The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest. - If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; please don't post disparaging remarks about it. - If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point it out so that the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins. - And of course, have fun! Unlike Farrar, I don't care whether or not you enjoy this topic (just to see who reads down this far). Let's get started!

This is a challenging assignment. I just went through every Rocketeer cover thinking there had been one with the the Grauman's Theater roof in it only to find it was a pin-up page of some kind, not a cover. Now I'll try and think of something else though drawing a blank right now. Challenge is good (I hope). Okay... how about...

This is a collected edition of a strip produced by the Dallas Morning News in 1926-28. The idea was that comics are like movies on paper.

This was a really tough one to satisfy with my secret personal contest criteria, but I'm now down to a maximum of 29 covers left.
That brings me close to the half-way point in this project. It's going to be a lot harder now, since I have fewer and fewer options each week. While I have many more than 29 covers available to choose from, each cover has a unique additional criterion. Each week eliminates one of those additional criteria, leaving me with less flexibility, some of which are a lot harder to match with a week's theme than others. So I have tried to use up the most challenging ones whenever possible. By my current estimation, I have five that are going to be very difficult to fit in with the week's theme, but then, I have already found a chance to use 6 criteria that I thought would be tough ones, so thanks to those OP's who came up with a topic that made it possible. (Unfortunately, when I started the project, I used up some "easy" ones that I probably should have saved for the crunch; that is, covers that met my secret criteria and also had enough variety and selection to meet a lot of the other criteria that might come up as the weekly contest challenge.) I'm probably going to need a win or two along the way so that I can use up some of those difficult ones by defining the topic myself!
And Rob Allen, I've heard that "everything's bigger in Texas"...but sheesh!
