Wonder Woman #65Wonder Woman figures out who is REALLY behind Veronica Cale's lawsuit. Oh joy! I thought that lawsuit plot was going to be an ongoing irritant and I'm so glad it's not. I think I am really going to enjoy this arc.

Batgirl #32Political intrigue and an assassin on the loose! Batgirl and Jason Bard have to try not to get in each other's way while protecting the candidate! I like Batgirl's new costume and I like the direction the series is taking with Barbara (and Batgril!) getting involved in a political campaign. And Jason Bard isn't annoying me so much. I hope the writers don't develop a romantic relationship between Bard and Barbara. He is a sleazy intriguer who framed her father for murder! He seems to be trying to clean up his act, but he was very recently defending the frame-up by saying something glib like "Politics is tough in Gotham City." And they killed off Cormorant! Batgirl has a rather meager rogues gallery, and Cormorant had some potential to be a good recurring foe. He's no Velvet Tiger or Killer Moth or even Knightfall, and he's certainly no James Gordon Jr! But he just needed a little work to be fairly interesting.

That is definitely a very cool look for Batgirl!

Detective Comics #999This appears to be the conclusion to the "Mythology" storyline that DC has been running during the "Countdown to 1000" for the thousandth issue of Detective Comics. I'm not 100% sure it's the conclusion because this storyline has been so bad, and the big revelation in #999 so trite and so awful, that I wouldn't be surprised if somebody thought it would be clever to add another twist in #1000 on top of the stupid twist in #999. But #1000 is probably going to be an anthology with numerous creators providing short stories about Batman. Stop reading if you don't want it spoiled! It turns out that all the crazy stuff happening in the last few issues is happening in Bruce Wayne's head. It seems that once a year, he puts himself in a deprivation chamber so that he can deal with the demons in his head. because it makes him a better batman. So, yeah, it's the "It was all a dream!" plot. And he does it on his birthday! It's so bad, James Robinson might be embarrassed to have written this. It's like Grant Morrison on one of his all-too-common bad days. Nice art! So happy this storyline is behind us! I'm crossing my fingers that #1000 will be better. It has multiple covers and they look great! I can't decide if I'm going to get the Michael Cho cover or the Frank Miller cover. While I'm sad to hear Tomasi went in for the "It was all a dream..." Shtick I'm glad he didn't really end up killing Leslie. Hopefully with one crappy story done with he'll go on to do better as I had ended up dropping this despite liking his previous takes on Batman.

Betty and Veronica #3: the teen drama continues as there is major fallout from the end of issue 2. Months have passed and Betty and Veronica aren’t speaking (Betty thought she saw Veronica kissing Reggie at the Halloween dance). Betty decides she doesn’t want to attend college where she and Veronica agreed upon. Veronica finds out her rejection to her parents alma mater was a mistake and she’s now been offered admission ( after her dad pulls some strings). She goes to confront him as he has a heart attack. At the hospital she sees Reggie visiting someone, but who? By New Year’s Eve, B&V are reconciled, but the upcoming college decision will no doubt cause problems. This all may sound like boring mundane teen angst, but it’s so well written and relatable. Who hasn’t had a falling out with their best friend and what a miserable time that is! Great art and very relatable characters. 8/10

A Bunch of Short Reviews:
What I Liked:
Terrifics: Still one of my favorite titles. I don't know how Bennett can draw the Immortal Hulk and this title at times. Great art. Love the team getting back together. Love Mr Terrific teaming up with another earth's version of his deceased wife and how weird it feels for both of them.
Fantastic Four: Slott has recaptured the classic FF. Yep. Love this title especially with Kuder's art.
Savage Sword of Conan: Man Garney's art is PERFECT on this title. The story is decent but not outstanding.
Daredevil: Zdarsky has made his stamp on DD in 2 issues! This feels like a classic run already. The art is outstanding!
Invaders: Another Zdarksy title that is awesome. My only complaint? Too much focus on Cap & Namor. I want to see more Jim Hammond.
What Was OK:
Wonder Woman: the title is slowly improving. Merino's art is good. I want to be amazed by a WW title.
Shazam: again a decent title but not amazing. With this creative team and the upcoming movie this book should be one of the best on the stands. However it is just OK.
Action Comics: So underwhelming. Bendis' story is boring. And Epting's art is not as great as his run on Capt America.
Just No:
Detective Comics: Really? The whole arc was a VR experience that Bruce put himself thru? Man that was a letdown.
Wish I Had Bought:
Freedom Fighters: based on reviews I am definitely going to get this series when it is collected in trade format!

I've been reading Invaders too and I'm just waiting to see the original Human Torch light up. Same here! I think Zdarsky is doing a great job telling a modern day story and using flashbacks to keep Namor likeable. He also shows the genuine respect Cap, Torch, Namor and Bucky have for each other. I also like the contrasting art styles to further show the two separate time periods.

Yeah, the characterization and art are really solid, though the plot itself has been fairly slow but it looks like things may start to pick up.

Action 1008: whatever Leviathan is, it must be pretty bad for all the havoc it’s causing. The story was suspenseful enough and I liked seeing Mr Bones and Adam Strange. Loved seeing Lois, Clark, and Jimmy all sharing scenes together. Didn’t quite understand the scene at the end with Amanda Waller and Sam Lane. The very first page was interesting and I wonder if clues of what to come are there. The art looked good in some panels, rushed in others. 7/10
Freedom Fighters #3: Wow...what a series! Enjoyed seeing the glimpses of Black Condor’s past and how different it is from Phantom Lady’s. The Hitler Family...yikes! Beautiful art, especially the Black Condor scenes. 8/10

Shazam #3: I’m mixed on this issue. 3 issues in and Shazam has barely appeared while the focus is on Billy and his foster siblings. I thought this issue was interesting with King Kid-it reminded me of some the sillier yet fun golden age stories. The art was great to me....but this story just isn’t grabbing me. I get what Johns is going for, but something’s missing for me. I’ll stick around but if the focus doesn’t go to Billy and Shazam soon, I’ll drop this one. 5/10
The Terrifics #13: great to see the team reunited and I shared Phantom Girl’s joy at seeing them come together to help Mr. Terrific! Loved the banter between Plastic Man,Metamorpho, And plastic man’s son. Nice to see Rex at peace with being Metamorpho. Hope things work out for mr and ms terrific. Great characters, art, story, and most of all—fun! 9/10
