Not saying this for confrontational reasons (intent can be lost online), but I'd be interested in hearing more about your thoughts on Byrne's "tank being empty". I was never a huge fan of his art to begin with, but his recent stuff is by far worse; it just looks completely flat and with out any energy or sense of motion to it.

I stopped reading X-Men back when X-Factor debuted (although I did pick up the Whedon/Cassady run in trades). The concept just doesn't interest me anymore.
Personally I think the X-Men belong in their own universe outside the main MU. I think their stories would be better if mutants were the ONLY heroes. I find it hard to have them in the same universe as the FF and the Avengers who are admired.

He no longer tells a story in a compelling way and his artwork is lacking In detail. He won’t get hired by the big two because he’s not the draw he used to be. Plus he’s a pain In The rear.

I like Byrne’s new Elsewhen pages. Dunno about the story yet obviously.

I'm curious about the 4 votes for other. For those who voted "Other", what's on your mind? The Original X-Men ... up to the point of where Jean Gray became the Phoenix and after she became the Dark Phoenix ... I lost all interest in the X-Men after that point. That's why I voted "Others" ... and my interest in that group started to wane and sorry that I'm this way right now. It's been bothering me for a very, very, very long time and I just can't enjoy any of the X-Men variants and other groups too. I hope you'll understand that. I need time to think ...

Elsewhen is the one I'd be most interested in. I did love Excalibur when Claremont and/or Davis was doing it.
I loathed X-Factor for all the reasons others mentioned already (even though I felt compelled to buy it for the first couple years.)
If I might digress a bit into the Defenders; I think I am one of the few people who really liked Peter Gillis' run on the New Defenders. Despite having three former X-Men it's wasn't like an X-book at all. It ventured into the weird that was the teams bread and butter, albeit a different kind of weird than other writers had done. And it was dark and creepy, almost a horror book at times. I hated how it ended, the worst and most contrived ending since Spider-Woman's book was cancelled. Though I don't blame Gillis--or Ann Nocenti--it's obvious both death sentences were handed down from above.
