A little Easter egg in the winning cover: the street sign says "Powers Sq." - Powers was John Severin's middle name.

Is FF #48 an homage to this perhaps? I am by no means an expert on pre 1960's comic covers, so maybe having people stare at the ominous looming doom coming at them was more of a thing. This one captures it fantastically though!

Thanks to those who voted for that Mystic #60 cover and to everyone who participated in this week's contest. That "Nothing Can Save Us" blurb/premise on the Mystic cover was so perfect for those times (late 1950s, what with the Cold War paranoia among other things) and sadly, at times is still relevant today IMHO. Anyway, to echo kirby101 : glad to see all the love for the supremely talented Mr. Severin, not only for the Mystic cover but also for chaykinstevens 's entry. And let's give some props to colorist Stan Goldberg as well. A little Easter egg in the winning cover: the street sign says "Powers Sq." - Powers was John Severin's middle name. Yep. You beat me to it...was going to note that very thing in my "acceptance speech." New contest up very soon
