sorry, but tacky as hell for them to call this Marvel #1000
EARN it, like DC did for "Detective" and "Action"
house of ideas, indeed.

I would have preferred it simply be called an 80th anniversary special, but then I think numbering is simply a con game all publishers manipulate to try to generate sales revenue and an more concerned with what's between the covers than on the cover, and there's simply too many creators I am interested in contributing tot his for me not to get a copy. -M

There is mental gymnastics at times from Marvel (e.g. when they reverted to legacy numbering a while back). But it's hard not to be excited. I get the "earn it" viewpoint - I really do - but I'm going to try and enjoy it on its own merits.

Yeah, the #1000 tag line is a bit weird but I like the teams presented and the concept sounds fun.

Re: This being issue #1000.
I know that Marvel has fiddled around with their numbering in such a way that certain titles which never had a series run longer than, say, 10 or so issues have since received a 100th or 150th issue by combining various mini-series together with ongoing series (ie. 'Venom', 'Deadpool') but is that what's happening here? Is this a case of Marvel adding different titles together to come up with Marvel Comics #1000 (ie. 159 issues of 'Marvel Mystery Comics' + 67 issues of 'Marvel Tales' Vol. 1 + 289 issues of 'Marvel Tales' Vol. 2 + …) or are they just ignoring the wonky math and simply inventing an issue 1000?

I suspect they're saying that if Marvel/Mystery had continued it would hit #1000 as Action and Detective did.

This looks really great. So much talent involved.
Hoping that Mark Bagley jumps on board.

It'll all depend on the individual projects, but lots of artists I like there. Perez, Smionson, Ward, Leinil Yu, ...
Very happy to hear that Perez can still draw. Hope he continues doing a few special projects like this, where continuing deadlines aren't an issue.
