Steven Paul has purchased the rights to all the Atlas/Seaboard properties and plans to work with Paramount to develop a number of feature films based on the properties. Paul was one of the producers on the Ghost Rider movies. I am kind of surprised by this, as Arrden tried an Atlas revival in 2010/2011 with the sole goal of attracting Hollywood attention with the comics and optioning the properties for movies to get Hollywood money and found zero takers at the time. I guess 8 years and a slew of comic based blockbusters has generated some interest, or Paulis proving Barnum right about a sucker being born every minute. -M

Huh.
It could work, though.
I mean, none of the Atlas books are bad concepts. Often they are three completely separate good concepts in the space of three issues!

I really like the first two issues of Scorpion and The Grim Ghost. And I'd happily watch movies of them. But I don't see any of the Atlas properties being commercial in 2019.

I'd love a Planet of Vampires ongoing television series, myself!

This might come at the wrong time with audiences eyebrow deep in the superhero film flood. That, and how many characters are in the Atlas line are either widely known or of any interest to the general public? I understand that any adaptation would alter certain parts that would not fit today's standards / expectations, but it comes down to overall visibility, interest and if anyone has tolerance for anything not stamped "Marvel" or (to a lesser degree, unfortunately) "DC."

They might have got the properties for a song. I feel after Endgame, there might be a void to be filled. There were some drastic endings to the MU, in that film.

At the same time, Marvel has set the pace for this entire superhero film bubble. Even while DC was churning out crap and Sony and Fox were producing mixed bags, Marvel set a standard that kept people interested. Post-Endgame, we may see the entire cinematic genre crash if Marvel doesn't successfully pass the torch to new properties.

The minds behind the MU are terrific , but the heroes that have been eliminated might cause that crash.

Hollywood used to buy up rights to all sorts of books and other ideas just so that OTHER'S couldn't try to do anything with them or they would buy it up and come up with some diluted script to pass around and wait for and hoping somebody would accept. This is really nothing different and hoping someone will take a go at another super hero movie and maybe hit it big. Between coming up with a script and signing actors it could take years or suddenly get pushed forward. A lot of wishing, hoping, praying and deals to make a movie happen.

Amazing to me that a line that lasted less than a full year that even most of today's comic readers have never heard is getting this.
Was I the only one buying that latest attempt about 10 years ago ? They weren't half bad.

Screw it, I am excited for this, I will happily plunk down money for any movie based on the Atlas comics characters!

I was sort of hoping maybe some of the characters could be part of the Valiant line. I could see X-O meeting Phoenix.

It all depends on the talent.

There are some decent ideas but worth paying millions for an i.p. most people have never heard of ?
I only wish the best for the Goodman family, but nothing there was terribly impressive to me with the exception of Demon-Hunter.

I totally missed their revival in 2010. I am still buying up the first incarnation wherever I see them in shows. Those original books had a charm and simplicity that I find attractive. They had some decent creators doing the comics, too.
