I can't remember when I first saw Silver Surfer. A late 80s reprint, I guess. A comic store in my area used to sell a lot of 60s-70s comics. So I can't be 100% sure, but I do like that image. It's an exciting cover, and the original from Tales to Astonish looks even better than the UK reprint. I just think you may be the only person to think it "definitive".

While I had seen the cartoon in reruns this was the first Spidy comic I ever read and the cover image has stuck with me Absolutely. Possibly the character and artist at their peak, but to be honest, there's so many fantastic Romita Spider-Man images that it would be difficult to settle on one.

Then of course there's this Batman image by Neal Adams.

These DC stickers from the 70's provided some definitive images for me. They're still in my head when I think of some of these heroes. I'm sorry that the images aren't bigger, but this is what I could find online. I like the set of images used for this set, which seemed to be pulled from various published sources, then the 80s licensing art (despite that it's by Garcia-Lopez).

For some reason, it looks like two of the images for the pictures of 70's DC stickers didn't display - or at least they're not showing up on my computer, so I will try again. Edit: I see they're still not showing up. Maybe it's just my computer then.
