The pulled away, or into somewhere threatening trope. Whether into a device, another universe, the afterlife, netherworld, underworld, etc., many covers used this trope, and its not limited to this handful of choices:

Yeah, that's a good one. I think one of the tradmarks of the top, top tier cartoonists is that they can communicate a lot about a character without showing their face. (Or, in this case, only the legs!)
