In October, Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque return to American Vampire for a nine issue mini-series, American Vampire: 1976, from the Black Label imprint, that will conclude the series. Nice, his superhero work, especially his Batman has always been hit or miss but I've always loved American Vampire.

Tom King confirms once again that I don't need to read any of his work with the news that he's doing a Watchmen spin-off.

Due to the none too surprising revelations about Scott Allie, Mike Mignola has straight up canceled the remainder of Frankenstein Undone and the pre-covid previewed The Last Knight of St. Hagan. While I'm glad Mignola finally took a stand against Allie and his behavior I have to say I'm sorry to see Frankenstein get the ax because that series was off to a solid start. Looks like that collection I recommended to you is all you're going to get shaxper . Edit: more than just canceled, I just read that the issues that were released...aren't even in continuity anymore. I don't think I've ever seen a move like that before.

In his newsletter, Ed Brubaker gave a slight reveal of what's next for him and Sean Phillips...3 OGNs of content in 2021. No more single issue series for a year, but more content by page than their usual output via the OGN format.
Here's the relevant part of the newsletter...
on another Brubakr/Phillips note, their OGN Pulp drops this week.

The full announcement of the Brubaker/Phillips OGN series broke today in the Hollywood Reporter and Bru shared the news in his newsletter... Oh man, I am so pumped for these. I love everything about this, from the OGN format, to the serial pulp character in standalone novel conceit, to the actual concept for the series. It's going to be a long wait for December for the first one. Luckily, I still have Pulp to read to tide me over. There's more preview art in the Hollywood Reporter article and in the newsletter if folks are interested, but I am not going to overload the post with images. -M

As part of a much larger layoff and reorganization at Warner, there is a huge shake up occurring at DC Comics currently, described by some as an editorial bloodbath. If rumors are true, Harras is out as EIC, Lee remains with the company but is no longer publisher, Mark Doyle hard of Black Label is out, Vice President, Global Publishing Initiatives & Digital Strategy Bobbie Chase. DC Editor Andy Khouri, DC Senior Story Editor Brian Cunningham, and SVP Publishing Strategy & Support Services at DC, Hank Kanalz are also rumored to be laid off.
Looks like Death Metal and Batman are the only monthlies selling well and none of the rest of the line has reached anywhere near the sales levels at the new distributors as they had at Diamond.
Dc Collectibles division has also been disbanded and folded into other licensing offices at Warner, and the only one getting a promotion is Marie Javins who is in charge of Global Publishing Initiatives and Digital Publishing currently, the only areas meeting expectations, and some are speculating this means that the focus of DC publishing will move away from print monthlies as a result of all this.
Again, little is confirmed, it's still all going down and the full impact may not be known for months, but it is a seismic shift in the editorial structure at DC at the minimum.
Part of the problem right now, is the Senior PR person at DC/Warner just left to work for Amazon so there is a vacuum in that office to handle all the leaks occurring as this all plays out.

Variety is confirming some of the rumors as the DC Implosion seems to be real. In addition several of the toy news sites are reporting that it has been confirmed that all of the staff at DC Direct has been laid off. DC will no longer produce their own collectibles line but will license more out to other manufacturers. From the Variety article Reports are that DC will reduce their print output by 40% almost immediately. It has been previously reported the new CEO has stated that currently 33% of their revenue is generated outside the US, and that his goal is to increase that to closer to 70%. That was his goal informing the strategy of the restructuring that was implemented today. It seems print products for the US direct market do not fit the global initiative, and digital products and products aimed to the book trade are more in line with those new goals so the publishing presence int he direct market is being reduced. It's theorized that the big IP books that are selling well in context (Batman books, Justice League, Superman) will be retained but other titles trimmed with output of digital and OGN content increasing as the market allows. There will not be more Batbooks per se for example, but the Batbooks being published will make up a larger percentage of the print output as other stuff is cancelled. I guess secondary characters will be relegated to OGN and digital products unless they catch fire and become big sellers. The aftershocks will include reductions in editorial staff, a smaller pool of freelancers getting offered work with only proven-sellers being retained in the short term. A lot of people lost their jobs in a very uncertain economy today, and that sucks no matter what you think of the changes or the directions WB/AT&T is taking with DC. Change for businesses, however necessary, can hurt and often has a human price. This one looks like its going to affect a lot of people. so hopefully they can land on their feet somewhere else. -M

DC's Suicide Squad, Young Justice, Teen Titans & Hawkman End in November DC's November 2020 solicitations revealed the final issues of four major titles: Squad, Young Justice, Teen Titans and Hawkman. www.cbr.com/dc-suicide-squad-young-justice-teen-titans-hawkman-end-november/Well there goes 1 of the 3 DC titles I was loving : Hawkman. It's a good thing he keeps resurrecting cause DC keeps killing him. Probably the best title DC had currently. I know the Implosion 2.0 is here with AT&T overlords and all but I'm really irked about this; and Teen Titans and Suicide Squad too ? I would think those would be decent sellers.

I loved Johns’ character defining run and Venditti took it even further; the best Hawkman run ever.
Sad more people didn’t try this.

I would think those would be decent sellers. Is DC killing him or is he dying because consumers don't care? I am a few issues behind on the run, but the solicitation says with his new origin*, Hawkman has reached his final incarnation so his next death is final and he will be in a position where he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save (either Hawkgirl (Kendra) or Hawkwoman (Shiera) I can't remember which) so who knows if they will kill the character or they are just retiring the character as part of their downsizing the line. -M *in the new status quo his original incarnation was a servant of an evil cosmic entity and responsible for the death of hundreds of millions and he is cursed to reincarnate until he saves as many lives as he was responsible for killing, and once he does he can achieve a final rest.
