Interviews with Malmberg and Jim Zub about the upcoming Conan series... Roquefort Raider EdoBosnarI didn't realize that Titan isn't licensing Conan but in direct partnership with Heroic Signatures (the former Conan Properties), and bothMalmberg and Zub have some interesting things to say about the upcoming series... -M

Roquefort Raider Also just saw in the Howard Days slideshow by Heroic Signatures/Titan comics that they are planning a new b&w magazine sized savage Sword of Conan release for 2024. Zub hinted at it too in the interview above but didn't want to say anything to get ahead of themselves. If you want to see the Howard Days panel vid's here but's it's a lot of old guys in a rented hall talking about stuff than the slick presentations form publishers we've become used to and it covers more than the Heroic Signature stuff. A large segment focuses on the reveal of the acquisition of REH's original writing table by Howard works and the reveal of the table at the panel, plus an account of how they got it. -M

Good stuff, very Marvel-like (during the Buscema years).

First look at interiors for Conan #1. There's several fully colored and lettered pages previewed in the article, but they cannot be hotlinked, so you need to go to the linked article at IGN to look at them. -M

I loved the Archie Legion, but I'm not sure I'm ready for an Archie Conan! Although to be fair, I'd prefer an Archie Conan to this...

I loved the Archie Legion, but I'm not sure I'm ready for an Archie Conan! (...) Oh, I'd read the hell out of an Archified Conan story drawn by Parent (or Ruiz for that matter).

Preview pages of Conan #1 are now up at Tripwire as well, and I can link from them, so here's a look... Roquefort Raider EdoBosnarThey're big images, so I am putting them behind a spoiler tag so those who don't want to see them don't have to scroll past the big pictures. July 26 is the release date for #1. -M

Really nice art! It's as if Big John was still among us. This looks very auspicious.
I wonder where that new series will fit in terms of continuity, as I did with the previous one from Marvel. Whole new start from scratch or half-reboot of the original Marvel series? I doubt it would be a continuation of the Dark Horse run, although one never knows.
The IP surrounding the Conan comic is an awful mess, what with the recent overturn of the 50-year limit in several countries, the sale of Conan properties and things like Red Sonja LLC. Until Disney buys everything under the sun, I doubt we'll get back the original Conan comic! Not that anyone aside from a few very old fans would care.
All that being said... I don't have a LCS in town, but as soon as this thing is collected I'll definitely give it a try.

It's going to use the chronology currently used by Heroic Signatures, which is slightly different than both the one used by Marvel and the one used by Dark Horse. I believe Jim Zub has mentioned arcs will take place at different times in that chronology rather than telling one "ongoing" story, but I don't know for certain as I read/listened to a lot of different interviews about this and stuff is starting to blur together. I also believe that a different artist will be doing the second arc, but Rob will be back for the third arc. -M

I must admit that while I liked the Miller and Clark chronology (the only one Howard said was pretty much as he had imagined it), I don't mind a little tweaking here and there. And I am quite glad to see the Dark Storm chronology no longer being heralded as the be-all and and-all of chronologies, as I thought many of its "fixes" were ill-considered. A writer can also always say that Howard himself told his stories out of order, with next to no connection between individual tales. And it was just fine that way.

A writer can also always say that Howard himself told his stories out of order, with next to no connection between individual tales. And it was just fine that way. I always got the impression that Howard's response to the Miller and Clark chronology was more of if something like that had to be done, that's more or less how I could see doing it, with the idea that he didn't think such a thing was necessary or even desired being left implied but not stated. They were yarns to be told around the fire, with a general sense of a progression in Conan's career, but they were not meant to be canonical or even "historical" so an exact chronology was neither necessary nor desired by Howard. But to each his own. I'll just enjoy the yarns as they are told. -M
