Yeah I'm sure those screenwriters of the guild are going to work for the by comparison meager pay to work in comics, especially when by accounts by people that have done both in that the comic writing work is sometimes more work.
I'd say that rumor is not very likely. Now having the comics say perhaps based off a series guide that is used for TV, yeah they probably should be doing that more now anyway.

Rumors are that Dan Didio is no longer co-publisher at DC. Egads the rumor mill is churning at Warp Factor 12 already! Let's see: they say AT&T/Warner Bro's doesn't want to do DiDio's 5G reboot (the 5th Generation) where the classic characters all replaced with modern/contemporary takes (like a black Batman, etc.) and then there is the rumor AT&T/Warner want to use Hollywood/movie/Television writers (with proven track records) on the DC comics. Further rumor that AT&T/Warner thinking about getting out of publishing and "farm" out DC comic to other comic companies (hints perhaps to Marvel) and other rumors that AT&T/Warner may want to sale DC comics (Ethan Van Sciver says) if the 5G fails reboot fails (will there be a 5G now that DiDio is out?) this summer. Yet even other rumors that AT&T DON'T WANT TO SELL DC as they see the value of the properties beyond comic books. Gonna be a long hot summer of sweating out the reality from the rumors and lies and fantasy. And it's all "100% True" because I saw it on the interwebz....
I mean, that's how the world works now, right?

I'd say that rumor is not very likely. Now having the comics say perhaps based off a series guide that is used for TV, yeah they probably should be doing that more now anyway. Well it looks like 2 of those big name screenwriter guys have already confirmed they are writing something for DC so there is some kernel of truth to the rumors... 1) Ken Kristensen-An Academy Nicholl-award-winning screenwriter, he was story editor/writer on Happy for SyFy, based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson's Image comic, story editor and writer on Marvel's The Punisher for Netflix, and back in the day he was Location Manager for Brian Singer's Superman Returns. He is currently developing a TV adaptation of his Image comic Todd, The Ugliest Kid On Earth for FX, he served as Consulting Producer/writer on the ill-fated Marvel/Hulu Ghost Rider show, he is developing an adaptation of Tony Hillerman's best-selling Leaphorn/Chee crime novels for HBO and is currently Supervising Producer/writer of a big unnamed action series for another premium cable network. He also wrote comics such as the aforementioned Todd, Michael Chabon's The Escapist, Fairy Godbrothers, Indestructible and Oblivi8n. And he has a DC project in the works. 2) Tim Sheridan-has already written a lot for DC Comics and Warners. Just not for the comics. He has five episodes of DC Super Hero Girls LEGO – Galactic Wonder, three Justice League Action Shorts, five episodes of Justice League Action, as well as feature-length animations Scooby-Doo! and the Gourmet Ghost, Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost, Reign Of the Superman, The Death and Return of Superman, two episodes of Teen Titans Go!, a Sgt Rock short, and four episodes of the DC Super Hero Girls series – including the two-parter #DCSuperHeroBoys. He is also writer on the upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revelation TV mini-series. And he has something in the works at DC too. What's not confirmed is what they will be working on. Could be something under the Black Label imprint, could be a one-off story ofr one of the anniversary issues coming out over the next year, could be a Generation Five title with a new iteration of a classic character, could be their own imprint ot curate, who knows. So it's not far fetched that there are other names in the works out there. I think it's just a matter of finding talent in the field whose work is already comic adjacent and offering them something they want to write. -M

I don't have a lot to say about Didio. For everything bad he did (and I think a lot of it was fan driven) he gave us something like Wednesday Comics and Solo. If nothing else he was willing to experiment a bit and try some new stuff and formats. On the other hand I could have done without the fan-boy embrace of the Geoff Johnsian minutiae. And while Vertigo was not the force it had been previously it was absolutely allowed to die on the vine under Didio. Those were really great, both are two of my favorite books...but they both came out a decade ago and since then I can't really think of a single thing he was behind that I really enjoyed. It's similar to my feelings on Chuck Dixon; there is no way mid-1990's Bill could imagine not picking up a book with Dixon's name on it...but today? There are few writers I'd avoid more than him.

I'd add Joe Kubert Presents, the Ink/Zoom lines, Black Label (especially Last God), Sandman Universe, Hill House, Young Animal, Wonder Comics, and a few others as titles/initiatives that happened on his watch (of more recent vintage) and that he was behind that are positives for DC overall and that I quite liked. -M

Bob Iger has stepped down as CEO of Disney. He will remain as executive chairmen of Disney until 2021 when his contract expires, and will be focused on the creative strategies for Disney, not necessarily the day-to-day business affairs he dealt with as CEO. Bob Chapek, formerly chairman of Disney Parks and experiences will assume CEO duties.
No telling how this affects the Disney umbrella of companies or Marvel in particular.

The announcement's a little old and I don't know how I missed it but this just became my new favorite title to come out this spring: Paul Dini, Alan Burnett and Ty Tmpleton's Batman: The Adventure ContinuesSet after the events of the animated series but before the flash backs from Return of the Joker the comic will cover unseen ground from the animated series giving us characters like Jason Todd and Azrael. I loved both the cartoon and the book so I'll be getting this for sure, both digitally when it's first released and probably in trade after the print run concludes.

This is making the rounds now, done by Skottie Young and friends explaining ways you can still support your local shop during these troubled times... If you have a pull list, touch base with your local shop. If you are under duress because you are out of work and cannot spare the money for comics, let them know so they can adjust their orders and make corrections to mitigate the financial distress they are under. If you want your books but don't want to make the trip out, let them know, maybe the can work something out with you. Communication is the key. Comic shops or comics themselves may not be a priority for you ion all this, but they are small business owners in your community and they are all facing hardships during this no matter what their stock and trade is. If you can do something, no matter how small, to support small business owners in your community, or even to soften the losses they will suffer by not having them get product for you that you aren't going to buy, do it. We will get through this, but I'd like a lot of the small business owners (not just comic shop owners) to be able to whether the storm and be in a position to resume their trade when we are on the other side of it, not be one of the casualties this pandemic causes. There are a lot of things beyond our control now. It can make any one feel helpless. Control the things you can. Do the things (even little things) that you can do. -M

My LCS sent out a great e-mail on Monday explaining the situation they are in financially (they will be OK "for a while" even if they don't sell a single comic book or TPB).
They said that to comply with the "spirit" of the governor's order to shut all "non-essential" businesses, they locked their front door to the public. On Wednesday, they posted an employee by the door and I was able to walk up, ask him to get me everything from my pull list, handed him a $20, and two minutes later, he returned with my books and my change. They were running a "take out" comics business, and from the stream of people both before and after me that I observed, it seemed to be a good decision.
I will probably buy a few trades from them that I would normally get from Amazon with a gift card to pump a little more cash into their operations once this is all over, or I might splurge on the Werewolf by Night #32 that I've been going back and forth on. I've been shopping there for 35 years and known the current owner since he bought it 30 years ago, and it's been a huge part of my life, so I'm happy to give back as I am able.

If your LCS (or any other local business like restaurants for example) offers gift certificates, they are a great way to support local businesses. Buying the gift card snow gives them an influx of cash now, but lets you do custom with them once the crisis is passed.

Looks like several publishers have told creators to stop working on incomplete issues and will be taking a hiatus and not putting out new product that hasn't already shipped to the printers. These include Valiant, Vault, and Aspen so far.
Image and Dynamite are continuing to publish, but are making all books returnable for the duration of the pandemic crisis. Marvel has increased discounts on books to ease the financial burden on shops.
Steve Geppi has issued a press release stating he is coordinating with publishers and retailers to frame an industry-wide response to the crisis to help all get through it, but the details of such a response have not been released. From what I understand (based on accounts by comic historian Robert Beerbohm) Geppi did a lot to help shops survive the fall out of the distributor wars in the 90s, from allowing shops to let invoices slide for a bit to garner enough revenue to cover them to floating personal loans to some shop owners to get them through to solvency. A lot of them did not survive, but a lot more would also have closed if not for Geppi's efforts, and he and his company are positioned to be a major factor in how the industry responds to this crisis and mitigating the financial hardship many retailers and publishers will endure through this, so I hope the response he is framing is effective.

Diamond has announced it will not be accepting any new product (comics, toys, apparel, etc.) until further notice but will continue to ship products already in the warehouses to stores that are still open.
The Canadian printer that does the bulk of DC's output (and that of many other US comic publishers) has announced it will be shutting down for 3 weeks, so no new comics will be printed during that time.
This is going to be a time of massive change to the industry (and likely contraction), and the business model, infrastructure, and retail landscape may look much different by the time we get to the other side.

Not really seeing much in Marvel's summer epic EMPYRE other than them exploiting the Kree/Skrull war concept yet again. BUT there is one exception: the return of the ORIGINAL SWORDSMAN. That bears checking out to see what they do with my boy 'Swordy.

I've been looking at EMPYRE in the free Marvel preview magazine my LCS and have zero interest in it, like 98% of the other things they have in their every month. It's a pretty sad state of affairs for them when the things I'm most interested in are the True Believers books, Facsimile editions, and Epic Collections. The vast majority of their current output just doesn't excite me in the least.

I'm not interested in Empire either but for my money Marvel is putting out a lot of good books, I'm buying more Marvel than any other publisher for the first time since the Ultimate Universe was at its peak. I'm loving Hulk, Doctor Strange, Strikeforce, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Thor, Miles Morales: Spider-Man and the Star Wars books are solid too.
