Best way to read Prince Valiant is in the Fantagraphics collection, at original size. You can just pour over the artwork and then get sucked into the text.
Originally, I only saw it when we visited my grandmother, as our Sunday paper didn't carry it. Then I saw the first volume of the Nostalgia Press edition. While I was stationed in Charleston, SC, a local shop had some of the paperback Fantagraphics editions and I started buying those, from the beginning, up to the birth of Arn. Just beautiful stuff.
