Honestly having read it......it's actually really good so far. The characters are in character (barring cases where there's something going on behind the scenes) Johns DOES honor the themes of Watchmen (Ozymandias makes a point about how the heroes haven't really done anything to fix society whereas he at least made some steps to improve Earth and Batman can't argue the issue) and the plot is well constructed if slow at times. Ozymandias is great as always, Manhattan is great as well and even newcomer Rorschach II is not only a tragic character but he also is a delicious take that to those idiots who think Rorschach is meant to be a role model (he finds out that Rorschach was a lunatic). Gary Frank and Brad Anderson do a phenomenal job with the art as well.
It's not as good as the original but on it's own merits it's a perfectly acceptable sequel or at the very least an elseworlds story. The only time the original story is criticized is when Lex insults Ozy's plan as idiotic and let's be honest....it kinda is.
Of course the final 2 issues are coming out, and it's looking like Superman's going to stop Manhattan and Batman's going to go after Ozymandias (with Rorschach II. Hopefully they'll fare better than Rorschach I and Nite Owl).

With how long it's been delayed, I haven't started it, and won't until everything is finished. Interested though.

I read the first five or six issues and I thought it was very good! I'm now waiting for the day I can read the whole thing from the library.

So Doomsday Clock (aka the sequel no one asked for but which has proven to be surprisingly decent) is almost done (literally. There's only 1 double sized issue coming up) what is everyone's take on it. Personally I think it captures a lot of what made watchmen work while also pointing out the parts that didn't (Lex Luthor rather hilariously tells Ozy "If you're the smartest guy on your planet i'd hate to meet the dumbest" when pointing out how utterly stupid the whole squid thing was.)

Issue 11 came out. It's looking like it's going to be a double sized finale.

So... um... I'm having trouble with some of the commentary here.
You guys are saying this is NOT stupid and terrible? Like this comic that Geoff Johns SURE SEEMS LIKE he is only writing because Alan Moore obliquely dissed him in an interview is not abjectly awful?
Weird.

Obviously, everyone's mileage will vary, but I am enjoying it despite the delays.
I will reread the whole thing once all 12 are finished. As a huge DC fan, I am extremely excited to see what the future holds post-Doomsday Clock.

As a huge DC fan, I am extremely excited to see what the future holds post-Doomsday Clock. I'm enjoying it immensely. It's very profound. If Disney/Marvel buys DC in the next few weeks, the series should end with Doctor Manhattan, Dr Strange and Deadpool having a bizarre confrontation somewhere outside time and space. It would end with the DC and Marvel universes blown up - and EVERYTHING starting over with a new no. 1. And the first title under this new brand should be Superman & Spider-Man Team-Up Monthly.

Just get rid of all the comics and never mention that they existed.

Same here. Thing is shaping up for Supes vs Manhattan and with everyone else unable to stop Ozy it's looking like one of those "holy shit how are they going to get out?"

Before the delays it seemed to have a decent start but if Supes VS. Manhattan is what it'sshaping up to then that's probably why I'll never read this past the issues I did. Watchmen simply shouldn't be dumbed down to a spandex grudge match...and that's coming from someone who loves a good old fashioned, Saturday morning, four color brawl. I like superheroes, I still read modern superhero comics from the Big Two and I enjoy seeing my favorites duke it out from time to time for even the thinnest of plot reasons...but that's not what the Watchmen was about.
