I don't want to take this too seriously, but it is pretty interesting to consider whether some of my favorite characters reflect aspects of my personality. The first one to come to mind when I saw this thread (and, being the first one must convey some kind of significance, right?) was the Phantom Stranger. And yeah, I'm a pretty introverted guy who tends to keep at the edges at get-togethers, and I don't like people knowing my routines (I really hate being a "regular" at stores so that they know my purchasing habits, for example). Definitely feeling some kinship with DC's most mysterious superhero. Who else? Well, Swamp Thing...uh, I really don't feel like some kind of monster, but I do feel like I'm not always recognized for my genuine personality. Deadman. Yeah, I would like to sample some other peoples' lives now and then, and I can often feel invisible.

My favorite super-hero is Batman, but I think all that reveals about me is that my favorite super-hero is Batman.

Cyclops! Responsible, honest, neither the most handsome, the smartest or the strongest, but striving to do the right thing and to get better through training and self discipline. Unlike most super-heroes, he didn’t start some really useful talent (like being a genius, as with Reed, Bruce, Peter, Tony or both Hanks). He didn’t get a “get huge muscles free” shot, nor was coveniently bitten by a radioactive spider. He’s not the son of a Norse god. He’s a regular dude (even one down on his luck) whose power is more of a hindrance than a gift, and becoming a hero is something he had to work at. I find that admirable. I have great respect for people who do something with their life, especially if they start with very few good cards. Not to derail the thread too much, but it's nice to see someone else who 'gets' Cyclops. In my mind, he's the best X-man, the true heart and soul of the team and that series (not Prof. X). Another thing I think is worth mentioning is that Cyclops is also a master strategist and tactician, arguably the best superhero team leader ever.

In general I'm not sure, but I have a theory - maybe this gets too political - but people whose favorite characters are Wolverine, Punisher, and/or Deadpool usually seem to me to be right wing. I've noticed on a lot of message boards, and through in-person store and convention experiences, that in general I usually end up not being a big fan of people who identify these characters as their favorites. When I was a kid my favorite character was Wolverine because he was a rogue. He didn't care for authority or niceties. He didn't like wearing a suit (except at a wedding.) For a kid who was a rebel (mentally if not in action) he was great. I'm curious what makes him "right-wing" to you (for the other guys I guess it's because they love guns.)

"Wolverine don't jump through hoops for nobody!" That was a direct dig at Jim Shooter, who wanted Claremont and Byrne to tell stories in which Professor X trained the adult X-Men as if they were kids.
