Reading Silver Age Marvel again, I find it interesting that Sue seemed to have an awful lot of pictures of Namor. Some even show him smiling. I have to wonder...who was taking these pictures? Did Namor occasionally stop by a photo studio to have a few done just for Sue? Did Namor have his own photo studio in his underwater lair?

Namor called Aquaman over and had him take them.

They're leftover publicity shots from one of the Invaders' war bond drives.
Cei-U! Hey, it's as good an explanation as any!

The idea of Namor walking around taking selfies, trying to get that perfect pic for Sue, amuses me greatly.

The idea of Namor walking around taking selfies, trying to get that perfect pic for Sue, amuses me greatly. Well he did seem to be rather fond of himself.

I guess in a modern context Sue would have and album dedicated to Namor in her smartphone.

Namor developed a crush on Sue Storm in the sixties and many times Namor was a romantic rival to Reed (Mr. Fantastic) Richards and that's one of the many angles that Marvel did in the sixties. Here's some proof of that. I was a faithful reader of Fantastic Four from 1966 to 1976 and it's seems that every year they do some sort of Romance Angle with Namor, The Sub-Mariner and Sue (Invisible Girl/Woman) Storm and to cause some frictions of her relationship of Reed Richards who is constantly working and in some issues it's bothers Sue who is looking for companionship. It's also drove the Human Torch nuts and sometimes The Thing can have some issues with it too. I just wanted to share a sampling of pictures here and I do realize that Marvel have a good thing going with Namor involved in a Fantastic Four Story. Every time he appears - sales of the books are generally (I'm pretty sure that I'm right here) good and I do recall in my area it's a hit among females comic book reader that likes romance in the books as well. I just stating my own opinion here and I just wanted to share this with you. I was shocked to see how many times that Marvel played that angle and believe me it was well played out during the sixties and the seventies.

I often wonder if the Sue/Namor thing is simply bias against the romantic potential of world class scientists. Surly the man that invented unstable molecules couldn't possible be romantic?! Now that's just offensive.

I often wonder if the Sue/Namor thing is simply bias against the romantic potential of world class scientists. Surly the man that invented unstable molecules couldn't possible be romantic?! Now that's just offensive. I'm no FF expert, but it seems that attitude is played out by Sue herself, from what I have read. Reed's too busy saving the world to satisfy my womanly needs, sexual or otherwise. Course, that's an accusation many women in the real world have. Men aren't spending time saving the world, just some random world on the Xbox, instead of directing their attention where they want it. Of course the opposite is just as insulting, that women are just as ADD as men, and in the absence of their man, or their man's attention, they run to another. But then I've never cared for overly dramatic romance in my fiction. I guess sue really likes "Fish Sticks" if you catch my drift..... Ha! Apparently she does.

Yeah, it would seem like "my man saves the world and invents life altering inventions on a weekly basis" would trump any frustration rather easily.

Yeah, it would seem like "my man saves the world and invents life altering inventions on a weekly basis" would trump any frustration rather easily. In real life, of course, we all feel selfish at times, and desire attention and love. My post may have sounded dickish, but it was aimed more towards those types of stories. There are some real life human behaviors that I get enough of in life, that I am not entertained by in the fiction I read. At least not presented in the anguished and abandon woman seeking the attention of another man; married or not. Especially as what I have read of the old FF issues, it was presented as a family book to me (though that may be redundant as most comics were then) where Sue and Reed had the Leave it to Beaver marriage. I guess some writer along the way thought that was too boring and hence, the Namor angle.
