I like the Max Fleischer cartoon version best, but also the '50s tv version... The original was simply influenced by circus strong man characters, and the cape was a visual way of showing what direction Supes was moving in, or if he was flying. Man, I grew up watching this all on a Black and white TV set. It wasn't til years later that I learned that the suit was colored in brown to highlight the differences before they converted the Show to color. Interesting. I'm not too surprised, though. I imagine that black and white film affected the color choices of many programs.

Classic Blue/Red/Yellow all the way. Stands the test of time and marketing and is the "go to" version EVERYBODY" instantly recognizes. Altering the suit is like changing the American Flag. I'm so glad that the red trunks came back. Well, no text is sacred.

I'm the one who marked "first appearance." Only Superman worth reading is Superman by Siegel and Shuster.

Well, no text is sacred. Ahem, the CURRENT American Flag. I've actually heard people say they oppose the admission of Puerto Rico to statehood because that would require a 51-star flag.
Cei-U! I summon Betsy Ross!

For me, I'm not ... I would welcome Puerto Rico as the 51st state.
