I think it was only a single issue (his final one) that dealt with The Stranger.
I vaguely recall his debut in X-MEN (the last issue Kirby did full pencils on). I suppose like many Kirby characters, once someone else was writing, they had no idea what they were doing. (One more sad thing about Englehart is, I've read in several interviews where HE dismissed Kirby's writing. I mean, G** D***, he oughta know better than that. Much of Englehart's writing has not aged well, while Kirby's writing got BETTER the older I got, which told me Kirby was NOT writing for a teenage audience.)
When Englehart left SS, he was replaced by Jim Starlin. After more than a decade of being DEAD, Starlin brought Thanos back to life at the end of his 1st issue. To me, it seemed, NOBODY else had the "right" to do that. It looked promising at first... but then it just dragged on and on and on into... (oh, don't make me say it... heeheehee).
