Being an annoying "health nut" now, I occasionally have to fight the cravings for donuts and coffee cake while drinking coffee. I'm a health nut and still wolf down donuts or croissants or any other type of pastry with my coffee. Guess my metabolism is still good. My key...karate, aerobics, roller-blading and a dip in my pool. Now see what you've bloody done, I want a chocolate covered donut with nuts in the morning.

I do have one day where I have one cheat meal and a dessert of some kind (typically Saturday) but I fear sugar like the Black Plague. It also doesn't help that I avoid eating bread if at all possible.

I'm drinking Mt Dew this morning, no coffee. I woke up at like 3am this morning and never could go back to sleep, despite trying. So I went to the corner store and got some Mt Dew and cigars and played some Dead Space to keep myself occupied.

Ah ... cigars. No wonder you have no apparent sense of taste.

Ah ... cigars. No wonder you have no apparent sense of taste. Not a smoker Dan? (I honestly can't remember) I would have smoked my pipe but I was out of tobacco and most places open at 3am don't sell pipe tobacco. You almost have to go to a tobacco store here.

I smoked for about 5 or 6 weeks, tops, during an insanely stressful (i.e. female-related) time in late 2000. That's it. I don't know what smokers are whining about; it's insanely easy to quit ... (kidding, obviously; I've had 2 friend here quit by going cold turkey, successfully, after decades of cultivating lung cancer, emphysema, etc. in themselves & others).
My dad gave me a puff on his cigar when I was maybe 4. Cured me of any desire to have anything to do with them.

Yeah I smoke off and on since I quit using snuff back in 2009 after almost 10 years of letting that destroy my teeth and gums. I can smoke when the desire arises like this situation this morning, without it being a daily thing. But if I bought another can of Copenhagen right now I'd be hooked all over again with a can a day habit.

Yeah I smoke off and on since I quit using snuff back in 2009 I don't even want to know what you used snuff for I stopped the occasional smoke after a friend of mine who did 1/2 pack a day got a heart attack at 29. I'd barely do more than 3-4 single cigarettes a week anyway. Yesterday, a friend bought in a huge pack of chinese made Hong Wing coffee and needless to say, the coffee maker was whipped out andthe entire office had a strong coffee aroma all morning. Not bad and did the trick on an otherwise, cold rainy morning.

My grandmother on my dad's side dipped snuff from those little brown bottles. Not at all unusual for older Southern ladies back then, I gather, though such a thing would've been unthinkable in my mother's family.

PKD was just about addicted to a brand called Dean Swift Snuff, IIRC.

Sitting at Starbucks at 6:30 AM on a Saturday because I woke up two hours ago and couldn't get back to sleep. I've already done my grocery shopping for the week, and now I'm killing time to let my wife and daughters sleep longer before I go home with the bags of food and start making noise while putting them away.
Having the Veranda blend, which is a lighter roast and much more suitable to my palate than their usual Pike Place. Wouldn't normally spend $2.25 on a cup of coffee, but someone gave me a $25 gift card, so, hey, free coffee for me!

Just about all of my Starbuck's purchases, which are few & far between (mainly because I'm a tightwad, natch, & almost always limit myself to the occasional discount deal), stem from gift cards. I think the only other gift cards I ever get are for Petco & Target. (Not complaining at all, mind you -- just commenting.)

Unlike smoking (and why it's got no real hold on me) dip gets right to your bloodstream via saliva. It's an instant nicotine fix. And if out find something with good flavor like Copenhagen was to me, it's enjoyable and exhilarating. And after that description I realize just how hooked I was.
