It is what it is. I love his work on Thor , even with the erased items. But I will challenge anyone to figure out ( without the original pages to compare with) what exactly was erased. I don't remember reading a panel Vinnie inked and being confused because something wasn't there. Again, I am not saying it was okay to erase anything, but it didn't affect the story.

And I wonder how this thread became an attack on Colletta?

And I wonder how this thread became an attack on Colletta? Looking at the thread, a number of artists have come under the microscope, which is not really an attack, as in "That guy sucked SOOO much!! He needed to be fired on day one! What was ______ thinking?? He almost brought the entire company down with his crappy work!!"

Still, back to the positive: Curt Swan was great.

Forget the Sistine Chapel. But there is a history of illustration that is considered art. From Parrish to Rockwell to Raymond, Foster and Frazetta, etc... So just because comics were done as commercial work doesn't mean we can't look on the work as art. Many, many artist tried to produce the best work possible. And BTW, the Sistine Chapel was work-for-hire.

Still, back to the positive: Curt Swan was great. Yeah...he was. Swan's Superman is definitely my Superman. Same here for me. Swan was THE Superman artist during the late 70's while I was getting comics regularly. While some of the stories may not have been all that super, The Swan Superman was SUPER without being a musclebound side of beef. And I truly enjoyed seeing his take on other heroes whenever they popped up within the series. And may I add that Kurt Schaffenberger's 1980's Superboy was the perfect match to Swan's Superman.

I made a funny and I didn't even realise. The briefest comments have the most opportunity for double meaning.

Maybe when you know an artist can do quality work it feels like they are disrespecting the medium or the audience when they don't.
I guess I'm the only vote for Frank Springer. I know I bought Dazzler for far longer than I thought I would for some reason. Jose Delbo was similar; solid if unspectacular, not collected by fans really.

I was an avid reader of Wonder Woman during Delbo's run and remember he did Marvel's Transformers for awhile. Jose will be at the Phoenix Fan Fusion convention this year. Looking forward to meeting and thanking him for his efforts and hopeful that he will have some affordable prints available for sale!

I think He's too sketchy (style, not as a person) for some tastes.

It just occurred to me that there's another way to look at this: when we say reliable we usually think of steady but unspectacular artists like many of the ones we've been talking about so far. But a lot of comics artists I do consider spectacular were also very reliable as in never turning in a rushed, sloppy looking job of work: Vicente Alcazar comes to mind as an example. Or perhaps even more so, someone like Alfredo Alcala.
