Kurt's still offline, so I'm raising the flag. The Emerald City Comic Convention is less than a week away, which means it's time to announce the details of our annual CBR/CCF NW get-together. Once again this year, a bunch of us are getting together for dinner unless the coronavirus wipes out civilization first.
Saturday, March 13, 2020
at
Ben Dew’s Clubhouse Grill 6501 6th Avenue Tacoma, WA (253) 564-4442
from
6:30 PM to 10:00 PM
It’s the same place we held the dinner last year, and while Tacoma wasn’t our first choice this year, Kurt's recent back injury dictates he avoid traveling by car whenever possible. But Ben Dew’s is a perfect venue, offering food comparable in quality and price to past locations and, yes, there’s a bar!
Kurt and I will once again be your jovial hosts and, as always, significant others, spouses and well-behaved children are more than welcome. If you are interested in attending and did not receive an invitation via Facebook, please post in this thread your name and the number of guests who will be accompanying you.
So come join us for some good eats, geek cameraderie and post-convention frivolity. You'll be glad you did.

And, the con organizers have just announced that the con will not be happening next week. They are looking for dates to have it in the summer.
The dinner is on hold. I'm not sure if I'll be going anywhere.

I wonder if the Capital City Con in Victoria will still go ahead March 20-22. If anyone were to be in town for that feel welcomed to PM me.

Just spoke with Kurt and confirmed that we're each going to stay home and bathe in hand sanitizer next weekend. When they announce a new date for the con, we'll be there if at all possible.
He expects to be back online this weekend.

I'm going to miss the music news that comes out of it. Very sorry to see that ECCC is being cancelled. Glad this wasn't the year I was finally able to go.

I'd bet a good number of those local businesses use the SXSW crowd to help them be profitable for the entire year, so losing out on that influx of cash may cause teetering businesses to fail and otherwise strong businesses to teeter. The gig economy participants, like Uber drivers, are going to be hurt as well. But hey, at least Jeff Bezos can keep getting wealthier since everyone is going to stay home and order everything from Amazon until it's safe to go out again.

As someone who lives in Seattle and books live music events for a living, the next month is gonna be tough.......

I wonder how long we're going to be fighting this thing.
I've wanted to get up to ECCC to meet some peeps and it'd be great if Slam was there too but not this year from the looks of it (breathing through mask like Darth Vader)

Rob and I were both disappointed about the con being postponed and we debated about his coming up anyway, but we both have people close to us with health issues that can't afford to catch this damned virus so we ultimately decided against. When Emerald City gets rescheduled, so will the dinner.
Cei-U! I summon the hand sanitizer!

I summon the hand sanitizer! I think a summoning ritual is the only way to get hand sanitizer right now.
