The story I heard is that Bill grew up pronouncing his name "Sink-a-wits" like most Americans would. When he was starting out in the comics industry, letterer Tom Orzechowski taught him the original Polish pronunciation, "sin-KAY-vitch", which Bill has used ever since. I heard this from Tom. taxidriver1980 has already posted Bill's first published cover; here's the first one with his signature:

I always thought it was Sine-Ka-Wicks, until I saw a pronunciation in a Bullpen Bulletin page. I still thought it Sine-Ka-Wicks, until I read the cerebus sequence, with Moon Roach, with Kevitch. Ever since then, i is engrained in my head.
