I feel like this show really picked up with the two part "Shiv" story despite some of the teen melodrama. The later episodes' unexpected death and reveal were handled fairly well. I think the production value is some of the best CW has done as far as the sets, costumes, CGI and action sequences. Better than their other superhero stuff, and on par with similar shows like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, etc. I am really looking forward to the two part finale! Can't give CW credit for production. It was a DC Universe show. CW is only running the 1st season in "repeat" so to say and will control the show starting with season 2.

I lasted about 12 minutes of the first episode before thinking, 'if this fecking director opens yet another sequence with a crane/drone shot dropping down then panning I'm offsy. He did. So I did. I'd nearly turned off at the awfully clumsy WE ARE DOING EXPOSITION FOR THE CAMERA moment when the Owen Wilson character pointlessly, slowly, one by one, opened the JSA secret files in the trunk and held them up for us to see. Laboriously name-checking the villains he hadn't bothered laboriously namechecking at the start of the show because he was too busy laboriously namechecking the soon to be dead superheroes as they were killed.

Wow. 10 episodes in with 3 more to go and this series has been extremely entertaining. We have a new JSA. Courtney's Mom has discovered her secret. More deaths. Awesome villains. Sometimes someone posts something so good that anything I would add would be redundant. This is one such occasion.

The first look at Season 2:
Looks good, although I hope it doesn't get too CW.

3 episodes into season 2 and it continues to be a fun show. Loved this weeks focus on Johnny Thunder and the Thunderbolt.

Yeah, I really enjoyed season 1, and so far season 2 (I've watched the first two episodes) is keeping my interest - even though I'm slightly apprehensive about it starting to 'play the hits' (i.e., repeat some of the same story/plot beats from the first season).

Just started getting the family into this show, as it seems to have something for everyone in my house. We were one episode in when Owen's medical troubles began. Hopefully, we'll get through Season One pretty quickly now that he is back home.

Agreed. The 2 best superhero shows on TV right now feature families with parents struggling to balance being heroes, jobs and raising kids. Superman & Lois and Stargirl have become family viewing time in our home also!

My wife and I really love this show. There's so much good in it, it's hard to know where to begin, but there are a few things I really appreciate...
Unlike other CW shows, it doesn't "sex up" the characters. Courtney actually looks like she just stepped out of middle school and into high school. Even Cindy, the "bad girl" is shown to be hyper-fashionable, not sexualized. It really makes the hints of "doe eyed romantic tension" that much more powerful.
Geoff Johns really fostered a sense of "legacy" when he was writing JSA, and it was something that permeated the entire DC line at the time. It really solidified the differences between them and Marvel and made DC unique. I loved that era, and feel that sense of legacy was one of the intentional casualties of the New52, and really took the legs out from under the universe as a whole. I love those elements being present in Stargirl. I did not expect the JSA or its legacy to even play a part in the show, and it turns out it's really the framework of the whole thing. I love the accuracy of Dr. Midnight and Hourman's costumes, while allowing for Yolanda to have an updated look. I love all of the old photos, Sir Justin, and all of the name drops of JSA/Golden Age concepts and characters. I feel "at home" in their world.
I feel like the show has the same sense of "verisimilitude" as the original Donner Superman movie. I feel like it takes itself seriously, and stays true to its own rules and characters. IT's pretty known that Geoff Johns is EXTREMELY protective of the character, and you can feel his presence throughout the show. Nothing gets to the screen without his approval, I assume, and he has gotten it off to a pretty great start.
Solomon Grundy likes fried chicken.

Agree with comments above. However the choice to use Eclipso as the villain has derailed my interest in this series.

Just seen the latest episode. The mention of "The Helix Institute" made me smile, but I thought it was just an inconsequential easter egg. Then Nurse Love's name was revealed. Then she phoned Mister Bones. I am indescribably happy. Mister Bones!

Finally finished season 2 and thought the 2 part finale was well done. Interesting set up for season 3 as well.

That was a satisfying series finale! Yes, it was. However, I'm a bit bummed that the show got cancelled. I wouldn't have minded another season or two. Also - and hopefully this isn't too spoilerish - all that stuff Shade mentioned at the end made me think, "Damn, I want to see those adventures!"
