What a stupid thread title, but my conundrum is that I'm itchin' to unload the comics that I'm never reading again. I doubt my LCS is in a buying mood these days, and the pittance I would get from them isn't worth it anyway. My wife is a member of some social media groups for things like local garage sales, so I think I'm going to have her advertise free comics for pick-up (adhering to Covid safety measures). What I don't like though, is the thought of some jerk taking the whole lot because he thinks he's going to make some money reselling them. I'm considering a limit of maybe five per person, but I'm also scared that I won't get rid of them quickly enough if I impose a limit. Does a limit seem unreasonable? I have a hang-up about being taken advantage of, and it's just as important to me that the comics get read as it is that I get rid of the dust-collectors. Any thoughts on discouraging idiot flippers?
I've been meaning to catalog what I have and post the list in the comics exchange thread, but I've been too lazy. I might do it this weekend, but, well, laziness beckons.

A few years back, someone shared here that they gave away comics they didn't want anymore to trick or treaters on Halloween. I thought that was brilliant.

Orphanages Children's hospitals Kids parties
To prevent some moron from reselling them, use a rubber stamp on the cover.

Are orphanages even a thing anymore? I thought it was all Foster Care now.

I've always had the picture in my mind that everyone that wants to get rid of comics goes straight to children's hospitals (and similar), and these institutions have more comics than they know what to do with. But now that I'm giving it more than a second's worth of thought, I was making a huge, and likely stupid, assumption. It only takes a minute to make the phone call and let them tell me themselves whether or not they can use them. I'll give it a try this week. I like the attitude of the rubber-stamping idea, but not as much as I dislike the idea defacing comic art.

Sadly you might not have luck with giving them away right now Covid has restrictions in place all over. Our hospital can only accept prepackaged toys/items which can be wiped down/sanitized. Likely better to wait until another time when its safer.
Don't look at it as defacing art. More like devaluing get rich schemers who would take advantage to turn a profit! Cut a corner of the mag or a stamp where not affecting the cover and which destroys the value for vapid investors.

From what I've picked up from the news the last couple months, social distancing and mask-wearing are paramount, but I don't hear such an emphasis on surface sanitation. I've heard some about that, of course, but it not nearly as much as the the other stuff.

Yes u don't hear about the negatives of contact. We used to receive donations at the hospital of stuffed animals, hand made pillows for heart surgery patients, hand made quilts & hats for cancer patients and hand made uilts/blankets for newborns. Not any more as there is no way of knowing the ckeanliness or health circumstances surrounding such gifts from an outside donation. Rather sucks that such selfless kindness of people in providing joy and help to others during their difficult moments has to stop.

Aside from some of the options already mentioned...
You could look at literacy programs. They are usually looking for reading material of all sorts to use in teaching reading skills.
Youth centers or day care centers if you want to get them into the hands of kids.
You could donate them to a local library-they may give them away as well or sell them in a library sale to raise money for the library system which will help the library as much as the material itself does.
You could contact places like the Billy Ireland Museum of Cartoon Art on the campus of Ohio State to see if they are taking donations of comics or have suggestions as to places that are taking donations.
You could list things here on the Classic Comics Exchange thread meant to find unwanted comics a good home-some use it as a trade thread, others just give away stuff-the only caveat is postage costs money.
You could look at something like Craig's List to find people to buy or take them.
Again, restrictions from the Covid pandemic could affect any or all of these, but they are avenues you could explore.

I used to give the public library several long boxes on free comic book day. Or you could Trade them with this community in the Comic Exchange thread. I have many books that I would like to get rid of too.

I love to read and keep most comics, and would be happy to pay the postage to Canada (via Paypal which has my address) of even as many as a hundred. I only can't take anything X-rated or overly violent. I do have one older friend I pass on extra comics to, he started in the '60s with Doctor Strange and still has them too. I have a small pile I can offer to trade from the '70s onward. Anyone needs a Colossus #1 from 1997 I somehow ended up with an extra copy of that and a few other '90s Marvels. Some '70s highlights are Iron Fist #15, Defenders #47, DC Special #19 (War Against The Giants), Batman Family #1, 12 & 16.
Feel welcomed to Private Message.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to have to at least semi-inventory anyway if I give in bulk to a charity (to weed out kid-inappropriate stuff and get an idea of how many I have), so I might as well go all out and fully inventory and post in the exchange thread first, and then use the suggestions for whatever doesn't get taken from that.

either library, or use your spouses garage sale group connections to set up a quarter comics sale (or 10cent) in your driveway (and cut deals for more on a case by case basis).
you'll get some additional $$ in your pocket, and that you aren't giving away free will prevent adults from trying to take all.

That was an oversight on my part
