I like the idea of a JLA spoof set in Detroit, so I picked up the seven issue TPB of Great Lakes Avengers (2016) by Zach Gorman and Will Robson. The art was fine, about at the same level of cartoony as recent Ms. Marvel, and with the same subdued color palette. The story was going nowhere fast. Despite having only four characters, only one of them (Big Bertha) got a meaningful story arc in which a modeling job turned out to be a trap by a mad scientist. The other four characters (Flatman, Doorman, Immortal Man, and new lycanthrope Good Boy) got moments but not a coherent story.
A spoof series needs witty writing. This series had characters acting silly but not much in the way of clever jokes. The only amusing moment that comes to mind was when two female characters passed the Bechdel test by mentioning the Bechdel test. JM DeMatteis' cosmic character Oblivion made a brief appearance as well, resurrected from the early 80s Iceman limited series. Other than that, it was all pretty forgettable.

Oblivion has been a couple of things since DeMatteis Iceman, mostly in Gruenwald's Quasar, where Oblivion was coupled to the villain Maelstrom through his avatar/herald Deathurge. In the 2005 GLA series Doorman replaced Deathurge as Oblivion's right hand man, so it makes sense that he plays a part in the new series as well.
