Don't think I'll get to anything else tonight, so let's do the August wrap up. Big month, 178 comics tis month, mostly Usagi, Baltimore and FCBD stuff.
Usagi and the early issues of Savage Tales were the highlights. Baltimore and Cerebus were solid, as were some of the FCBD offerings. Among the new stuff Gogor, Nice House on the Lake, Norse Mythology II and Good Asian were the standouts among my pull books.

August only had me reading 26 comics. Most of them were Sandman Mystery Theater. They were quite good , if not incredibly violent. I enjoyed revisiting Avengers Academy which had veteran Avengers teaching young people with powers , but the twist was that they were at risk for becoming super villains. Most of my reading time was taken by my grandson who was with us for 3 separate visits in August.

Well, I beat July by one comic.
With Owen in the hospital for as long as he was, immediately followed by the beginning of the school year and Owen's birthday, I haven't had the headspace to handle anything else. Even my house is a disaster area, filled with unopened bags from the hospital and dirty dishes.
I don't know. Maybe I'll get back to reading (and even posting around here) this month if owen stays out of the hospital. Seems like forever since I've even been a regular here...

I'm glad that Owen is doing better. Comics are a wonderful escape but reality will always have to rush in.

So August ended with an equivalent of 25.5 issues. About 1/4 of my lowest total of the year. Part of it was vacation. Part was being crazy busy at work. But part was comic book "reader's block." I've had to be picky about prose lately as well, but I just haven't been able to find any comics that have held my attention.

Just under 100 comics for the month, putting me at just under 1000 for the year.
September highlights include the first half-ish of SamdmanMystery Theatre (#1-36 plus the annual), early SSOC (#1-19 plus the annual) and Usagi Yojimbo Senso. Newer books that stood out were the first issues of Primordial by Lemire/Sorrentino and Echolands by Blackmon/J.H.Williams III. The Death of Dr. Strange #1 was a good read as well.

37.5 issues (or the equivalent) this month. My comic reading has plummeted. Nothing is really grabbing my attention.

As usual, I'm happy with my classic comics reading but dissatisfied that I'm reading so few newer things. I have no shortage of new-ish stuff on hand here but have been having trouble finding something I'm really in the mood for. In September I started a couple things but left off after a few pages, though I'm sure I'll go back and read them eventually - one was a Peter Bagge collection and the other slips my mnd at the moment.
But all the old stuff I've been reading has been solid, and a lot of it really outstanding stuff:
MAD - this is no surprise, really, since I had read enough bits and pieces of the Kurtzman era MAD to know what I was getting . Steve Canyon - Caniff's long-running news-strip continues to impress me way more than I ever would have thought going in to it. Blueberry - enjoying this much more than I had expected. I knew I would like Giraud's artwork, having checked a few samples online, but the stories are much more involving than I had anticipated, given my relative falling off of interest in the western genre.
Blake et Mortimer - I more or less knew there was a very good chance I'd like this series because of the genre and the art samples I'd seen online, and Jacobs delivers consistently; I wouldn't say it's exceeded my expectations, but my expectations were quite high going in, so it would have been easy to disappoint me.
Pogo - again, I had seen enough of this in our local paper growing up that I knew what I was getting, but I'm definitely liking it more now than I did then. I don't think it'll ever be a real favourite with me, but my appreciation of it has grown after reading around 2/3 of the first volume.
Hellblazer - liking this one much more than I'd expected, but I was a little sceptical about it at first - which explains why I've taken so long to try it. I've never read anything else of Delano's and didn't know anything about him, but I think he did a very good job of analysing Moore's Constantine and finding the right voice for him and putting him the in kind of settings and stories best suited to the character. Some of the artwork has been underwhelming, though at times I thnk it might be a printing or colouring problem, but it hasn't spoiled my enjoyment of the series so far.
and the one new comic I read last month:
Fight Girls - nice artwork by Frank Cho and ... nice artwork by Frank Cho. That's about it, really. The story is kinda dumb, to be honest, with all kinds of things happening that don't make any sense, at least not to this reader. However, the basic scenario or set-up is interesting enough and so far I find myself able to overlook any illogicalities of plot or character and let the story take me along.

Only 70 books this month, little lighter than normal (and I didn't count any of the comics included in any of the 3 volumes of the Toth biographical trilogy I read which dominated my reading time this month), but it was enough to put me over 1000 for the year.
Highlights-SSOC, SMT, Usagi, and Hagar the Horrible.

I ended with 65 comics read for October. Too much going on to really get any further but at least I did 60 or better for the 6th time this year. The Highlight was a digital Read of Avengers during the bomber jacket era by Harris Epting and Palmer. It was a lot better than I remembered it and featured Galactic storm in which the Avengers seemingly kill the Supreme intelligence. This makes my total 627 for the first 10 months. It's highly doubtful that I will reach 1000 for the year.

November is over, I won't read any more tonight, so time to tally.
Prolific month with the equivalent of 126 issues read, bringing the yearly total to 1169.
Highlights for October-Destroy All Monsters (Reckless), Wynd, Akira and The Good Asian.

Finished out the month with 85, which was the best since July. Of course 2/3 of that was my re-read of Hitman.

November was the first month in which I got any significant amount of reading done since Owen first got seriously ill in early July. He is slowly moving in the right direction and, now that the daily threat of an emergency room has vanished, there's a little more time for things like reading comics. 20 this month isn't terrible, considering. I got my Doug Moench review thread back up and running with TEN new reviews, and I read some other truly excellent stuff as well. total read this month: 20 total reviewed this month: 10 Best comics I read this month: Giant-Size Spider-Man #2, Marvel Premiere #18, Planet of the Apes (magazine) #2, Uncanny X-Men #130-132* w/amber Other highlights this month: Astonishing Tales #26, Eternals #1*,2, Legion of Super-Heroes (1980) #287-288, Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane #105, Uncanny X-Men #129* w/ Amber

My total was 69 for the month. I finished off JLA 255-261 , the " Detroit League" and it started with promise but sputtered in the end. I did enjoy the Heroes Return Thor ( 1-7) that featured Dan Jurgens writing and Romita Jr. artwork. I have 696 read total for the year. Too many obligations to get to 1000 this year, I guess.
