I don't see an existing thread for this movie. I am going to watch this for sure. Looks great.

It's not really a sequel. More a soft reboot. Strange, when I first saw the trailer I was pretty turned off. The next day I felt better about it, and I might see it. It's like in 24 hours my expectations completely lowered, and I'll be going into it not expecting something that great. Probably the mindset that got me through Justice League.

James Gunn and Idris Elba...if the initial reviews are even remotely good I'm sold.

Only piece really not digging was the vulgarity/violence for laughs. Have people forgotten how create humor or induce laughs without being vulgar? I am not a prude by any means but is this cheap easy characterization for showing these are "bad people" who are not really heroic?
And yes we get it, his name and powers are "killer" shark. But do we have to see it in the trailer? Better to wait and play it as horrendous shocking moment but instead let's use it as a highlight to draw in viewers?

After the rated R Deadpool success, I think the movie Industry has turned a corner for Super hero movies. Cursing is In.

What did you expect from a red band trailer? The R rating and al it entails is the whole point of the that kind of trailer. Once you see Red Band trailer, expect violence and vulgarity, it's why it's labelled Red Band int he first place. As for the trailer itself... They've got M-Fing STARRO! I was not expecting that! And while I am not a big Stallone fan, he was perfect as the voice of King Shark. -M

Why is Peacemaker a villain now?

Why is Peacemaker a villain now? In the comics didn't they have him becoming mentally unstable and a bit psycho? Going more full on Punisher style in becoming uncontrollable?

Yeah, they royally f@#$%d up the Peacemaker. Okay, as a concept, in its original form, it was a bit ga-ga anyway; but, it had that sweet Pat Boyette art to make up for a self-conflicted premise ("A man who loves peace so much he fights for it!"). DC's idea was to up the violence and make him schizo-phrenic, which shows how much thought went into it. I think they hoped to make him their own Punisher, since Vigilante failed at that (and Peacemaker turned up there). The mini-series sucked pretty badly and he was pretty much buried (other than the Vigilante appearance) until the LAW mini-series which didn't exactly thrill me, but wasn't bad (wasn't great, either).
That trailer makes me want to avoid it just as much as the previous film, for similar reasons. James Gunn's name doesn't improve that much, although I mostly enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy films (first more than the second, really, apart from a few segments).
I really don't know how you can do the Peacemaker in any form and make it serious and work. It looks to me that here, they looked at guns and helmet and just went with that. Then, they stuck john Cena in it, since he is used to doing stupid s@#$ for Vince McMahon and the coke-addled monkeys who book that junk he calls "sports entertainment;" but, that's a different rant.
Comics-wise, DC's handling of the Charlton Action heroes was so-so. Blue Beetle and Captain Atom both had pretty good superhero series and mixed well with teams. The Question, in the hands of Denny O'Neil and Denys Cowan was just a whole different realm of storytelling, mixing philosophy, metaphor and crime fiction in a very unique stew. Nightshade was pretty much tossed aside in Suicide Squad, Judomaster was nearly completely ignored and Peter Cannon was owned by Pete Morisi; so DC sat on their option until the latter stages and knocked out a decent, if hardly memorable short-lived series. Question ended up being used well in Justice League Unlimited and Blue Beetle got a nice sort of adventure in Batman Brave and the Bold (Ted Kord, not the trademark extender) and Captain Atom had moments in JLU, even if they sucked the personality out of him. He's probably fared better, overall, at DC, apart from the whole Monarch fiasco.
I would so much rather see someone actually try to adapt the Suicide Squad as John Ostrander and Kim Yale wrote it; not necessarily the stories, but the style and the straightforward presentation of it, rather than a violent jokefest or a bunch of government killers. The Arrow version of the Squad was okay; but, the one I would have liked to have seen more of was Task Force X, on Justice League Unlimited. One of my favorite episodes in the entire series was the one devoted to them, as they infiltrated the satellite and stole the armor that Ares had animated, earlier in the series. It maintained the personalities from the Ostrander series, did it in a nice Mission Impossible style, and made it really memorable and entertaining.
They really need Bruce Timm, Paul Dini and the other producers and writers to take over the films, as they seem to be the only ones who know how to translate the comic elements in a way that appeals to wider audiences and is still faithful to the spirit of the original work.

IT. IS. AMAZING. incredibly violent, lots and lots of cussing - and earns it's hard R rating. starts off a bit "iffy" but by the time the opening credits roll around, I was all in. King Shark is astounding, as is Ratcatcher. And of course Robie as Harley - perfection. Really? all the characters are on point. if I had ONE complaint (and it's a minor one) it's that the use of Music really comes across as "Gunn trying to do "Guardians" here" but still. . .
no real spoiler to say it has a fairly high death count. . . and I guess because I read so many comics? I was pretty damn accurate on whom I thought would survive (tho there is still a surprise or two).
Highly recommended.

Just saw this morning and is great summer extravaganza. There are the expected as well as unexpected deaths of Belle Reve visitors. Plenty of laugh moments along with downright horrific moments right there beside the YAY team and damn, no they just didn't do that did they?
Well worth viewing upon the big screen. As to crowds? Covid still affecting folks who will go out when they can watch at home. I counted 20 of us in the movie this morning.

I'd like to see an Ostrander-inspired take as well. I enjoyed that series and followed it for a few years.
